In adjusting the setdown position for my BeoGram 6500, I believe I’ve gotten the pickup arm gears at the top of the camwheel in a confused state. I’ve followed the directions to “make the pickup arm transport manually” on page 5-1 of the service manual, but think I need the equivalent directions to return the gearing system to its natural state. I no longer get the “brief half spin” when the platter is put back on, for example - and the pickup arm does not move left or right except by manual pushing.
I can of course fiddle with the gears a bit but am hesitant to do so unless I really know what I’m doing. Should the pickup should be at the far left, or far right, for example?
Nothing’s wrong with the strings or belts — this is just about reversing the pickup arm gear engagement in a safe manner, I think!
Edited to add: I can get the system into a condition in which it will position the pickup arm at the middle (17mm?) position and spin the platter indefinitely without lowering the tonearm, if that helps...?
would a photo of the gear wheel position in the home position help you?
