Hey gang.
In my old apartment I hid my cables in the walls. I have not done that in the house yet as seen on my pictures in the flash thread. Now we have had a leak in the ceiling causing water inside the wall behind the tv.
So when the workers are here to rebuild the wall I will hide all my cables inside my walls.
In my old apartment I just drilled holes and had then "free" inside the wall". Now Im thinking of putting tubes inside the walls so if I need to change or add cables it is easy. Is this overkill ? Or shall I do like I did in the apartment - just drill holes?
Big tubes with extra space for more, more is better, you never know what may come or which way you will go in the future, at same time get sufficient power outlets located where needed.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
That was exactly my idea :)
In the future it will be really easy to change or add cables if I put tubes in the wall.
If it would have been an inside wall I would have made space for the settop box and the mac mini :)
But since it is a outsidewall I dont want to tamper with the isolation, I want as much isolation as possible.. :)
I am currently underway of putting in tubes in my walls for cables running from a "media" closet to my BV11 as, like you say, it will be easier to either add more cables or remove cables should they fault.
It takes a little longer, but I think it's worth it
If you're going to put tubes, aka conduit, in the wall to let you pull future runs of cable, don't forget to put a pull cord in. At least one (color coded if more than one) piece of twine or thin rope or such, or even flexible wire, that you can tie the new cable onto and pull it thru. I recently worked building test ranges and pull cables were required on every conduit run to allow for future cabling. Of course, these were usually hundreds of feet long, but even the short runs inside briefing rooms in buildings were setup that way.
Good idea to put in conduit though, makes future changes very easy.
