Hi all,
I've been using my current system for 15+ years now, and I'm finally thinking of getting a modern TV. :-)
In my current system, all audio is played through my Pentas via my Beomaster 7000 (TV speakers are turned off). The only video source I use is a set-top box for DTV-C which I control with its own remote. I don't use the TV's analogue tuner at all. The only TV beolink commands I use are "V.tape" to turn the TV on (and show the picture from the STB) and "AV" + "V.tape" to get the sound through the Beosystem 7000.
Now I'm thinking of getting a Beoplay V1-40 (or maybe an ex-demo BV10-40) to replace the old LX6000-II, but will I be able to use it in the same manner as I use the LX today? The video sources will be my STB and an AppleTV (or a mac mini).
If I understand the audio configuration guide correctly, I can configure one of the PL outputs to be a fixed-level output, so I guess I'll get the audio to the Beomaster 7000's aux input that way.
It would of course be nice to connect the Pentas to the tv instead of the beomaster, but I guess that's impossible as the V1 seems to lack audio inputs...
At present I use a BL7000 and a BL5000 as remote controls, but I am ready to buy a Beo6 if that would make things easier.
What I want:
- be able to use the Beosystem 7000 in the same way as before, including the MCL linkrooms
- activate the V1/BV10 screen and get the sound to the Pentas (via the Beomaster) with 1-2 button presses
- control my STB and the AppleTV via the TV (or the Beo6's 3rd party h/w support)
- be able to listen to music from the AppleTV without activating the screen of the V1/BV10 (not mandatory, but then I could get rid of the Airport Express and use the AppleTV for both video and audio)
My question is if it is possible to use a V1 (or a BV10) this way?
My current set-up:
My wanted (??) set-up:
What do you think, would this be possible?
I am very grateful for any help or hints regarding this,
Henrik
henrik: My question is if it is possible to use a V1 (or a BV10) this way?
V1: Not possible at the moment - but probably in the near future ... It has been "rumored" , the V1 will too become compatible to the NL/ML converter during "spring" ... The layout will be the quite same as before - the difference will be the ML-cable will be connected to the NL/ML converter. The NL/ML BeoLink converter as well as the V1 will be connected to the same router/switch via ethernet cable.
(A new BeoLink Converter + ML Cable will be approx EUR 200,- and the BeoLink NL/ML converter + additional cables will add further EUR 700 to the price tag of a V1 - maybe there will also be costs for a "Feature Activation Key" - who knows)
BV10 should be no problem. Just add a Beolink converter to your Audio Aux Link connection. Set the BV to V.OPT 0 and your BS7000 to A.OPT 2.
This setup will work as before and better, before you don`t have to press AV - V.TAPE...:) Just press V.TAPE when the whole system is in standby mode,
and your BV will start in V.TAPE mode, your BS7000 starts up in A.AUX mode, and the Pentas power on.
A bit mory tricky is your setup with a V1 connected. But should work - also with linkrooms - for audio.
You will need a Powerlink adapter for the V1, a special cable (Steve?) for the Audio Aux Link connection and a Lintronic box.
Conect PL out of your V1 to Audio Aux Link. Connect IR inputs of your Lintronic box to Datalink. Program video buttons like TV, V.MEM, DTV...numbers 0-9, arrow buttons ... and what else you need to Lintronic. Set the V1 to V.OPT 0, BS7000 to A.OPT2. Set a fixed (similiar to line level) volume level to V1.
Now you can control all audio devices via BS7000 and all video devices via Lintronic (via BS7000).
Will also work via MCL in linkrooms - only for audio.

thanks for your help and your suggestions! I see now that it gets a bit more complicated than I thought (but still feasible!). I thought that i could skip the link commicationbetween the BS7000 and the tv, and by some option programming get the TV to just react on the TV-related commands (then I'd have to activate the aux input on the bs7000, of course), but I see now that that may be impossible.
On the other hand, a BV10 would be easier than expected (and I already have a beolink converter that I can use). ...but I guess that the V1 is a better tv (not counting the design or the sound)?
Hmm, tricky. I'm very grateful for the explanations and suggestions you've given - I'll now consider your advice.
henrik,
What S/W did you use to produce the drawing? Could be an idea for a new thread, 'Flash your schematic!'

Ah, I did it in Adobe Illustrator - an overkill for doing this kind of illustrations:-)
Maybe it sounds more complicated than it is. A programmed Lintronic box and a special adapter cable (RJ45 - 7pin DIN - 2pin mini jack) would be a great seller - Michael and Steve - are you reading this? Lintronic can provide the box, Sounds Heavenly the cable.
Then the user just needs to connect the cable to V1 - BS and Lintronic, set V.OPT 0, A.OPT 2 and everything works....

Yes, you're right - it isn't _that_ complicated. :-) I just hoped that I could get there without adding more devices, but it would of course be ok with a Lintronic box. :) ...or a beolink converter, id I'd go for a BV10 instead.

Forgot to mention in my previous post:Digital sources, connected only via HDMI (eg A-TV 2/3), cannot be distributed from a BV10 *) to the link room system -a BV 11 (and in the future also a V1) based setup uses the the NL/ML converter to do this job.
*) of course there are workarounds, like de-embedding the audio signal + D/A conversion to feed an analogue sound signal also to the SCART input in parallel

Ah ok! I almost only use the link system for my wake-up radio timer in the morning and for timer-controlled light control, so audio distribution from video sources to the linkrooms isn't high-priority, but it's good to know the limitations of the various solutions. The most important thing regarding the tv is to get the sound from it (and its connected sources) to the livingroom beosystem.
Reading all the answers in this thread, I feel that the V1 is the better choice? BV11 is too expensive - I could afford it, but I can't justify spending so much money on a tv - and the only thing I prefer about the BV10 compared to the V1 is the styling. I haven't compared the PQ though.
StUrrock:Could this be helpful to you?http://uk.bosscom.com/product.asp?id=1082
I use a Bosscom switch connected to my V1 and Beosystem 7000. It makes it possible for both of them to share my BL8000 speakers. I have an Airport Express connected to the Beosystem and an Apple TV connected to the V1. What I find annoying is if I play music (Spotify) from my iPhone and use airplay to get the sound to the Apple TV and the V1. Then the centerspeakers is on. But to get around that I play through the Airport Express and Beosystem 7000 instead. Then the V1 is not activated at all.
