I have a DVD2  and when I switch to any other source it just carries on playing, the only way I can ger it to go into standby is to power the whole system off with the Beo5 remote.

I think I need help with the on screen "connections"

Anyone knows the exact settings that I need to enter

Thanks

When you say  when you switch to any other source it just carries on playing, do you mean the source does not change and you still see the DVD playing  on screen – or it changes source but the DVD payer remains turned on?

On my BS3 and DVD2 when a DVD is playing, if I change source, I see the new source, but I can see the DVD2 screen and the disc stops at whatever counter but the DVD2 remains on. The same happens if I am watching the HDD.  The DVD turns itself to standby after about 15 minutes.

From the DVD2 playing if I switch to say DTV or The Humax Free sat box the new source shows on the screen, with the DVD still "spinning"  then if I power off with the Beo5 the DVD2 doesn't go into standby mode (everything else does), but if I play the DVD2 and power off with the Beo5 it stops and goes into "red" standby mode.

Also the DVD2 doesn't have an on/off switch,

and when altering the on screen connections and switching sources and powering off the whole system sometimes freezes and because there's no on/off switches i have to pull the Beosystem's power lead, (not good)

I will try it again and see if it turns of and goes into standby after 15 minutes or so

Do you have a scartcable (aside from the hdmicable) between the BS3 and DVD2 for communication?

graham60:
Also the DVD2 doesn't have an on/off switch,

There's 6 little recessed buttons on the back panel of DVD2.  S3 is 'standby'.

If I play a DVD and then Power off, the whole system goes to standby including DVD2.

It seems your DVD2 is performing as it should when connected to your BS3. You have probably not noticed before but because of your recent issues you may be noticing now.

Set the DVD2 playing then switched to Humax Freesat, DVD2 stopped playing with stopped position in window and Green light on, 2 hours later Green light on, pressed "open tray" and removed DVD green light stayed on, powered the Humax Free sat off and the DVD Green light stayed on, powered up the DVD2 from the Beo5 remote and then powered off again DVD2 goes straight to (Red) standby, so the only problem of DVD2 standby is with source switching

I think the problem must be in the on screen connections, or what I'm doing wrong

could you give me your exact settings for your on screen connections

Thanks for your help

Yes but the Beo3 sits in a unit and access to the rear is limited

Hi Graham,

Screenshots of the Connections in the order they come up as you step through. Mine is not connected with HDMI.

I do tend to agree, however everything else goes to standby, like if I play a CD, the Radio, the DTV or the Humax Freesat, everything else goes to standby at "source" change, weather the DVD2 doesn't go into standby at source change because it's a recorder etc. I don't know but it seems strange  to have to power off after watching a DVD and then watching TV, The Humax Freesat "connections" even give options for the standby mode

Thanks for everyone's help and advise

I have done more tests. If I’m watching a DVD/HDD and change source to Humax/TV the DVD2 turns to standby after 30 minutes. It does the same if I am watching DVD and change source to CD.If I change source and immedieatly turn off it goes to standby at the same time as the new source.

It seems my DVD2 goes into standby the same time as my BS3 but not immedeately on change of source. On change of source it geos to standby only after 30 minutes. (I said 15 mins previously as I was busy doing other things and just estimated the time. Today I actually timed it and it was 30 minutes on all 3 tests.)

I have a Beosound 9000 connected and as you say, if I am listening to a CD or Radio, when I change source to TV/Humax the BS9000 goes into standby. If I am watching DVD and change source to CD/Radio DVD2 remains on for 30 mins and but goes off sooner if i turn BS9000 to standby. (BS9000 runs through BS3 so going to standby on BS9000 pust BS3 in standby)

Part of your issue may be the way your BEO5 is set up. I am using a BEO4 and they all have a standard setup and can only control in a set way. BEO5s are custom programmed for a specific setup and a button on a BEO5 can be programmed to do more than one thing or do something different to the similar button BEO4. Therefore my setup may be working different to yours. Especially if you say it does not go to standby even after 2 hours.

That looks the same as my settings, I have HDMI and a SCART lead ! don't know how this works but someone said they have both leads connected, I have HDMI in connections

You need to have a SCART lead connected (HDMI is optional and can be connected at the same time). DVD2 has no IR receiver so all commands are sent via the SCART lead.

thanks for that, I assume it's working as it should do now, I also forgot to take the DVD out and opened the tray from DVD2 standby with Humax (TV) playing on screen, when I removed the DVD and closed the tray the DVD2 went straight to "Red" standby, so its just the "standby at source switching" and it looks like that's how it's manufactured,

so it's just remembering to power off after watching a DVD

I don't get that - make sure that you have a fully wired SCART cable between the systems. I vaguely remember that pin 7 was the comm line - but I'm likely to be wrong as it was such a long time ago......
