Hi all.

I have a customer with 2 Beolab 3500s that he wants to reuse in his home without a master B&O system to drive them.

He wants to run Sonos through them using the variable line out option in the Sonos:Connect.

I know that B&O speakers such as the 6000/8000s can be used like this via the RCA terminals but the 3500 does not have this connection.

Could someone advise what would be needed to allow the chap to continue enjoying his 3500s.

Many thanks,

Kav

You will need a (or two) BeoLink Converter - to replace the AudioMaster -  for that.

These setups were described a couple of times during the last months.

Please do a search for it.

Hi Kav,

This is a popular question today, I've just had a similar enquiry from one of the UK B&O stores!

Unless there is a B&O master product in the house to connect the Beolab 3500 to, you would need a Beolink Converter (this must be the latest version, type 1161166) to ensure that the Beolab 3500 switches on correctly from a Beo4 remote. You can connect multiple Beolab 3500’s to one Beolink converter using Masterlink cables (http://www.soundsheavenly.co.uk/bando-ml.htm).
Assuming that your customer has either Sonos ZP80, ZP90, ZP100 or Sonos:Connect, then you would use this cable to link from the Aux Out sockets of the Sonos to the Audio Aux Link socket of the Beolink Converter (http://www.soundsheavenly.co.uk/bando-rca.htm).
If you need any further help, please feel free to ask.
Kind regards, Steve.

Hi Steve,

I assume that if the customer wants the 2 BeoLab 3500's to run with different music in each room he'll need 2 Beolink Converters & 2 audio cables to link them to the converter. You can't run 2 sources into 1 converter?

Hi Kav,

Yes, that is correct.  Each Beolink Converter is only a single-source device, so you would need a separate converter for each music source.

You mentioned that this is for your customer - are you a B&O trader or store?  If so, please send me a PM and I will be happy to offer further help and advice directly.

Kind regards, Steve.

@Steve But if he wants one source-only (the Sonos), it would be possible to use a splitterbox to link the BeoLink-converter to the first and the second BL3500 with MasterLink-cables (that probably already arethere)??

Or am I missing something?

5 minutes later: OH - please forget my question. The answer was already part of your answer above Embarrassed

Hi Millemissen,

Yes, you can use as many Beolab 3500's together as you wish with one Beolink Converter and one Sonos unit, as long as you don't mind them all playing the same music.

Simply join the Masterlink cables with junction boxes to link the extra speakers.

Kind regards, Steve.

Dear beophonic,

Thanks for your enquiry.  As far as I am aware, these converters won't drive an ML product from a non-ML audio source.  I think that you will need to use the latest version of the 1161 converter (full model code 1161166) that can act as an ML driver.

The other option is to use a direct audio cable from the music source into the DIN input of the Beolab 3500 (either MCL or Powerlink, depending on which version of speaker that you have).  This way, you don't need the converter, but you will still need a B&O remote to power on the speaker.

Kind regards, Steve.
