Hi Beo people,

I’ve recently acquired a Beogram 1500. It’s the one with a teak surround and the amplifier built in.

It currently has an SP 6-7 Cartridge in the arm, but the needle has broken-off in the cartridge. So, should i buy a replacement needle for the cartridge (if I can find one), or buy an alternative cartridge with needle in situ? I see a lot of SP12 and SP14’s advertised, but would either of these work or be compatable with the deck I have? Would they be an upgrade from the SP 6-7? What do you suggest i buy.

Also, although the power light, lights-up when i press the ‘on’ phono button, the turntable doesn’t turn, so I’d like to get the entire Beogram serviced. Can anyone recommend a good service centre or B&O expert i could take it to please?

I’m in SW London so somewhere local would be great, but not essential.

Thank you!

I am also looking for a cartridge for Beogram 1500. So far the only solution is Sound Smith but it is based in USA. There are also some used MMC20 cartridges available in eBay. I am not familiar thought with the SP cartridges you mention.

Have you tried taking the tonearm out from its rest?
That's where the switch for the platter motor is.

SP14A would be an upgrade, but a good SP7 should give almost equally good performance.

Hi,

Thanks for your replay. As far as I understand it, the Beogram 1500 came with amn Sp6-7 cartridge, later models came with an SP12, SP14 or something similar?

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

Yes, I fiddled about quite a bit with the arm etc, but no movement on the tunrtable. Thanks for the info on the Sp cartidges... What about the Sp10 or 12? I see alot of those advertised on Ebay? I do still have the original Sp6-7 cartdige... but the needle is broken. Maybe I'll just get a new needle. Do you have any suggestions for a needle at all? Either the type, or a source to but one from?

Thanks for your help.
