Hi all,

I'm refurbishing an old CX100 pair, only one of my bottom driver is broken.

I'm looking for an original replacement online, but thus far no luck.

Any tips on getting my hands on one?

Furthermore, I was curious if you could also replace the bottom driver (8480173) with a new bought top driver (8480174)? I know they are slightly different (the bottom having a ventilated magnet), though not sure what the impact on the sound would be.

Cheers,
Daan

Hi and welcome to Beoworld.

You used to be able to get replacement drivers from B&O but they stopped supplying these 10-12 years ago - I replaced the drivers in both of my pairs of CX50s before this.  Most people seem to re-foam drivers if the problem is that the foam has perished - kits are available on eBay and there is advice on the forum if you search.

The CX50 has the same driver (part number ends in 173), if that helps.

If you can get hold of the 174 driver cheaply it may be worth a try - obviously replace bottom driver in both speakers.

Hi Daan,

A Guy i Copenhagen is selling OEM units at the DBA site:

But I don't  know if he sends outside Denmark.

Try to keep them as original as possible. A CX 100 has both the 0173 and 0174 drivers. They are different. One has a airhole in the magnet, the other doesn’t.
There doesn’t exist CX100 which are still in good order. Even if they look alright.
Audiofriend has the right very well fitting foam surrounds. Or rubber versions, which I don’t prefer as I always try to keep them as close to the original ones as possible. Soundwise the best, I think.

Thanks all for the reply.

The foams were indeed completely gone. Already refoamed the 3 other woofers, though currently looking for a working 0173 driver.

Guess my best chance is getting my hands on a cheaper CX50 set like Guy said.

One is a woofer (73, CX50/CX100), the other is a midrange (74, Only CX100).
They are neither identical nor interchangeable.

Hi Martin,

Thanks, was already afraid that was the case.

Guess will need to keep a good eye out for a 173 driver then.
