Hi Guys and Gals,

Very sad news, I hope I can revive this with your help.

I had not used my bedroom system for a few weeks, when walking past it a few days ago I noticed the LED lights were on and randomly lit.

I tried different buttons but no change, the lit LEDs did not or would not change or turn off.

Panicking I removed all the batteries thinking they may have leaked maybe, but all was clean and they were perfect.

I then replaced the batteries with good batteries from my other MCP 5500 from the living room, alas no form of life at all.

No LEDs light up, no responses by the system, nothing at all.

Opened the unit and found no discernible signs of component failure, caps look all good. No deterioration of the main board, connections all sound (visibly anyway).

Totally lost as to why it died after the random display, no one touched it or messed with it in anyway, so strange, an unlikely victim of COVID perhaps.....

Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

I’d try with a new set of batteries. I found mine was very finicky about having batteries with full capacity.

Yes indeed, and use good 'uns too,eg Varta,Duracell or Energiser.

If you are in the UK,then I can recommend the Sainsbury's own brand batteries too.I understand that they are rebranded for Sainsbury's by Energiser, but they are less costly!

Otherwise, there may be a problem with the power supply regulator, which rather cleverly,is normally in "sleep mode"but comes to life when a key is pressed. If the key board is faulty(common)it can confuse everything.Try pressing the most used keys a few times,in case one of the contacts is stuck down?

i am using Duracell batteries in both units.

Upon checking with the replaced batteries ( from the working unit MCP 5500) I am getting a reading of 6.47V at the inputs on the board of the mcp 5000...

but still no life in the dead MCP ....

Is there anywhere I could get a service manual maybe with a schematic.

Will buy a new set of Duracell batteries later today.

The batteries seem fine.

Can you check the voltage at TR52 collector, when you press any key or alternatively, short TP15 to metalwork?

The manual is on site here if you upgrade your membership(good value)The details for the MCP are included with the Beomaster 5000 manual if you search.

Thanks Nick,

I will check the TR52 collector voltage and if necessary try the shorting.

btw.... I have the original Beomaster 5000 manual so will check it out.

regards
