Hello:

Recently one of my Penta 1's made a "pop" noise and quit working. The light comes on green when connected to my Beocdenter 7700, but I have no sound.

I have tried changing channels and all possible easy fixes.

would anyone know what I should do to get this working?

thanks in advance !

Well, there are far more qualified people on here to help you out than me, but ill try to get the ball rolling.

The Pop would seem to point to an issue with the Penta amplifier , so id rule everything else out first. Interesting that the amp light is green - that would seem to indicate the amp is good and just waiting for an input signal.

You should first give it a different source than your 7700 to remove that from the list of possibilities. Speaker level inputs are on the amplifiers bottom so that would be easiest to try. Rca from anything with volume control to the outputs would be next to try. You will determine very quickly if the problem is in your Penta.

Next thing id do is remove the Penta amp from the equation. Remove it and you'll see standard speaker connections from it to the speakers binding posts. Remove the penta amps wires. (make note of which one is positive. Mine are both white and i marked it myself.)

Connect another amplifier to it and if the speaker works, then its definitely an issue with the amp somewhere.

Where you go from here depends on your capabilities. It is far from the easiest amp to work on, unless you are one of the aforementioned qualified people.

There are two fuses under the panel containing the binding posts, but id bet they are ok if the light stays green. Besides, fuses rarely just blow without a fault causing them to do so.

If the amps at fault, report back !

Thank you kiwi!

I did take the amp off the bottom and saw that the slo burn ceramic fuse was blown.

this is good! I ordered a new one and will re-operate when it arrives. The old b&o speaker wire was a bit loose when I installed it and I’m hoping it’s was just a surge or something like that thst caused it to blow.

im going to reconnect it at the alligator clips upon reassembly for a tighter fit.

I’ll keep you posted.

enjoy the day!

...also, the speaker worked fine when I pulled the amp and connected the wires to the speaker.
