Hello! A few months ago I purchased a Beocord 8004 that did not work - it would engage the heads momentarily before disengaging. I took the cassette mechanism apart and saw the disintegrated belts. I ordered a kit, and replaced all of the belts and rubber idler wheels. I took the entire system apart to clean the very dusty circuit boards but after reassembly, the tape heads no longer engage when pressing play. I cannot read the display either as most of the pixels are burnt out, so I cannot tell if it is giving me an error. I can hear the motor spinning and see the pinch roller spinning the entire time the machine is powered on. The display seems to be dimmer than before, too. I took apart the tape mechanism again and saw nothing wrong and put it back together to no avail. Everything looks fine upon inspection. The problem is, I might have perhaps messed something up during reassembly of the circuit boards. I really should have tested the tape mechanism before doing all of that.

I have done lots of searching and haven't been able to find much, despite the wealth of information available. I would appreciate any and all help I could get!

Thank you.

Tape loaded?
Sure all brake arms are on their correct hub sides?

Hi

When you put a cassette in and load the deck is the light on under the cassette?

You wrote that you had all PCB's out, look for the plugs if they are on the right socket and the clamped wires if they are straight and in the right holes, sometimes it happens very easy that one of the wires go into nirvana ;-))

Look for the big plug comming from the tapemechanism in the right position?

If all plugs and cabels are checked and nothing suspect take a DMM and measure the railvoltages +15 V, - 15 V ( is OK while the capstan motor is running) and 6,2 V.

You can find them easily in the servicemanual.

Let us know how you get further.

Best regards

Christian

And check solder joints at the large socket for the tapedeck.

Yes, I believe I've got the arms where they're supposed to be. The tape was fully inserted but I can try seeing if another one would make a difference.

Thank you, I will make sure to check! I looked at all of the solder joints before but do not remember looking at the socket.

Yes, the light does turn on. I'll definitely take another look at those stiff wires, maybe one got cracked or misplaced. Thanks for giving me the voltages to check!
