Dear all,
I (was) am the 'proud' owner of a BeoVision Avant 55 MK1...Sad to say a few days ago I became the latest 'victim' to the dreaded Pink/Purple Pixelated Screen of Death.
In simple terms I've now come to know this as a Video Engine on the main board going dead.
Besides the obvious encouragement to part with more money to replace the board, I am asking - seriously - if there are any (B&O?) technicians out there who have had any in-depth knowledge of this issue and precisely "where" / which part of the board has failed and ANY success stories of diagnosis/repair.
Fortunately it's not the centrepiece of our house, so I can afford to take my time...
Also, separate issue leading to other ideas: I know it is an LG Screen in there - does anyone have any other more specific details about the screen... The screen specs for example... and/or any LG TV's that ever were produced to use the same screen...
All useful input and ideas welcome on this one: Even if it is just general technical help and experiences with working with these units.
Many thanks in advance everyone
My understanding is that the screen in the avant is Samsung not LG, It seems from my owning experience that the main board lasts for 5 years before it packs up ( five years to the day in my case.
There are a few issues though; the main board also contains the chip ( which is programmed by B&O at the repair centre) for PIN control matched to serial number of the product. So hope of finding a donor board from a samsung TV is out!
The engineer to came out to replace mine inidcated that extra heat sinks had been used; however close inspection cursory inspection could reveal no such changes, I think its the same board- and presumably a chip that goes down - I would love to know what part it is, but all the engineers i spoke to just offered to swop out the board.
I do wonder if engaging fast startup which uses 55watts even in STANDBY!! is a causation
@Dazlinn
It seems that you have a choice of either dumping the Avant....or paying the prize to have the DVE board properly replacet.
If replaced you may look forward to use this still excellent BV for another 5 years (by then you’d probably want something else).
IMO it would be a pity to throw a BV Avant 55 away!

There is a tv - and there is a BV
