Hi all,

have, as usual, searched the forum for some time to find an answer to my problem, without success...

Have started an installation of a blgw (I like my old beo products). Simple installation so far only ML;

BLGW + Beomaster5 + Beolab 3500 (in the kitchen) on ML cables.

The BLGW found the ML products easily with the capture function. But my beolab 3500 does not seem to listen to the beolink app. I can see it and I get the sources. Have tried various options, link option, put them in the same zone etc. no success. The only command that seems to work is the "All Standby" then it goes to stand by mode. Any hints much appreciated.

Thanks

Baaz

Further my last,

realized that the beolab 3500 is quite old and sw version only 1.2 could that be the reason.

It is strange though that the blgw find i and recognize it at once.

Hi Baaz,

I don’t know if it will help, but I understand that the app to use with the BLGW is BeoLink 2 (if you can still download it).

Although I have a BLGW, I haven’t started playing with it yet.

Hi Lawrence and thanks for Your reply. I have actually tested both versions and the beomaster 5 works on both.

It's the beolab 3500 that does not work, though I can turn it of with the app. It could be that it is on old version

I've read that SW 3. something is required but I thought that was just for the light and control commands

Yes - unfortunately, according to this, I think you need software 3.3:

Lawrence,

You are right, I've seen this but also other comments that it mostly concern automation.

Still it says You have to have 3.3 or higher for source commands, I guess You are right

I have to look for a newer version...

Thanks and have a nice evening

Hello again,

so I've searched for a newer Beolab 3500 to work with my blgw, not for automation only audio.

Unfortunately all the available seem to have sw 2.0 or 2.1. I've found one with serial number 22535396

which sounds like a newer version, He is unable to check the sw as he has only this item left. Anyone

who would happen to now in what period this might have been produced or which sw version it could have.

Thanks

I have just last your bought 2 BL3500 to use with my ML system and I use a.aux a lot. For that I needed sw3.x installed. It was easy to ask sellers for the serial I think. They can check the version on the display very easy with

MENU, then MENU, then 0, then 0, then PLAY

Thanks for the input beolion,

problem is that it's a private seller with no other Beo product left, no remote. May I ask if You now which region Your

serial numbers are. They could of course have been upgraded afterwards but it could give a hint.

Thanks

Hi Baaz,

I have one quite old BL3500 in the bathroom which works with my BLGW, I will have to check the FW version later, but it is one with the PHONO source so predates N.Radio and N.Music. I also have one of the later 3500 running software 3.3. This is only needed for forwarding Light commands to the gateway, which is why I bought it, or if you need to access the A.AUX source.

Is the 3500 added to the resources page together with the address? You then need to define the sources manually for it under the interfaces tab.

Hi Rob,

thanks for the input. I've fiddled around a little with ML cables this afternoon and put the Beolab speaker next to the blgw and now both

(I've got a second one) works. It seems like it's the wireless 1 that's the issue, didn't mention that because I thought it just forwarded the

commands between the ML products. When I read the compatibility document thoroughly I see that it include the Wireless 1 and as

non-compatible on the other hand it says You have to have sw 3.3, but basic source commands work even with sw 1.2. I'm using ML

on the wireless, know it's supposed to be PL from the beginning. I'll check if that could make a difference.

My problem is that I really need some kind of wireless/powerlink solution, our house is an old one, built 1903, solid walls 3x8" lumber...

Now the CD commands work with wireless1, not volume nor shifting to radio only CD commands.

Keeping on testing...

Further my last, the CD commands have of course nothing to do with the wireless1. It's via the app and i guess applicable for all speakers in the system.

No luck with power link cables on the wireless1, guess they are no compatible at all.

Another strange thing, when I connect blgw, bm5 and BL3500 with the same ML cable splitted to three with a junction box (actually I've used ordinary splice connectors to ensure 100% connectivity, also tested the cables) the speaker will not respond to the commands from the app. When I then connect the BM5 to the ML rj45 on the blgw everything works. If I do it the other way around, rj45 to the speaker it doesn't work, maybe that's because it's an old bl3500 and sw 1.2. Why the straight forward splitted ML cable doesn't work I don't understand. Anyone can share some light on this.

Just checked my bathroom 3500 and it’s running software 2.0.

Are you powering all devices down on the mains switch when changing the cabling? There is some sort of negotiation that happens that decides which device provides power on the ML cable to devices. I used to have trouble after power cuts with my Beocenter 6 tv, for whatever reason the tv wouldn’t provide the power and none of the ml linkrooms would work. Adding an ml power box to the NL/ML converter fixed it.

When it doesn’t work for you, see if the 3500 responds to the beo4 Cd button. This might help determine if it’s the ML power issue I had.

Thanks Beolion,

sounds promising, I've found one with serial number starting with 225

Should be a later version, I'll take my chances:)

ebnrob,

You were right! it was the order you turn on the devices on - I rebooted the blgw and now it works on both ML and RJ45 connections.

So we can roll out the cables and establish it's the wireless1 that is the problem. I guess there is no one that have had success with wireless1 in a mlgw/blgw system. I suppose the newer wireless transmitter 1/receiver is not an option working on a  single channel or would that work?

I'll have the newer bl3500 by next week, see if that makes any difference.

Glad to hear you got it working! I have no idea about the wireless masterlink though I’m afraid. If you need wireless I’d recommend you upgrade to the new network link with a beosound 35 for example.

My experience of using masterlink speakers with the beo living app is always painful though as it is incapable of remembering the source selected, so each time your phone or tablet wakes from sleep you have to start over by selecting the source again! For masterlink automations the gateway is great. I have a button on my bedroom wall switch that triggers the 3500 to join any other music playing in the house 😎 and the light commands are forwarded to the gateway so the hue bulbs in the room can be controlled from the beo4 light button!

Back again,

got the newer version of bl3500 and it was sw 3.3 Smile so I'm  now in phase with the blgw compability, did not make any difference in the

wireless 1 connectivity with bm5 though. Let's forget about the possibility to use them (wireless 1) in a blgw/masterlink setup and move on.

Which I haveSmile and bought a blc nl/ml, a core and ordered a couple of beolab 18.

Maybe I should start a new thread but I'll try here first; my objective is to replace the bm5 with the core as audiomaster but still

have access to the bm5 and it's N.MUSIC, is that possible?

My system is mainly audio, looking at the blc menu it looks like You have to choose audio either visible on the ml or nl not both?

The closest You get, as far as I understand , is Source Center but then N.MUSIC ends up visible on the ML side and not

on the NL side.

Any advise much appreciated

Hi Baaz,

I ended up buying 2 converters, one exclusively for by BS9000 and another for the ML link rooms. This allowed me to map Radio on the ML side to Tune In on my Essence instead of using the BS9000 FM radio. CD source is then mapped to the BS9000's converter, N.Music mapped to Deezer, DTV to the APPLE TV source on my BV11 and A.MEM to my Chromecast audio on the line in of the converter. Works very well. My only gripe is that it's not possible to have Airplay mapped to individual sources on the converter. I have to be on Radio (TuneIn) then start Airplay from my phone to the Essence and it switches to Airplay on the ML speakers.

I managed to get a power box on ebay for £40, but had to wait quite a few months before one appeared. They may still be available to buy new, ask your dealership. No idea how much they are new.

ebnrob,

figured out that I will need the same, multiple BLCs, and also power box. There the BL3500 could be setup without audiomaster. Have about the same thoughts about the setup as You have with a Core for TuneIn and the BM5 for ripped CDs.

Did start a new thread as the subject of this one didn't reflect the new issues. I guess You were lucky to find a power box they seem rare. I keep my eyes open and check with the nearest dealer.

Right now I'm struggling with the basic setup of the BLC (as slave with speakers) with only a BM5 (audiomaster) connected and of course the BLGW.

Looked at an example in the 1.4 version guide and stripped it down. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'll keep ob testing:)

Try the converter as a video master or Beocenter. With the latter you can map n.music and n.radio to your core. Once saved power off all your ml devices for a few minutes then turn back on with your audio mater first, followed link rooms.

ebnrob,

Heureka!! that works! Thank You!!

this is really helpful, now I've got a "gateway"Smile to start from.

Really frustrating with zero result and no clue what's wrong.

So I'll need at least one more BLC as it is not bi-directional in this setting.

Thanks again!

Hi Baaz,

I spotted an ML power box on eBay this morning for £50 and remembered you saying you were after one.

Just wanted to say that I’ve upgraded some 3500s to sw 3.3 - in fact a old LC9000!  You can still get the part from B&O - it’s called the Microcomputer - and it is quite easy to change as it is behind the display in the centre.
