Hello;

I have most of my Beocenter 9000 working well, but the cassette is problematic.  The belt seems and turns the metal spindles that turn the capstans.  But the wheels (teethed ones) that turn the tape - well the right one turns fine, but the left one is hard to turn.

It doesn't look like it is attached to anything - it should I think turn freely when the center wheel engages it.

Any ideas?  Doesn't seem like a lube issue... The teeth spindle doesn't have a screw so I am thinking it is a washer of some sort holding it in.

Thank you all for your time.

Often the belt is worn out and doesn´t have the right grip for the teethed wheels to turn.

Try a new one and most problems will be gone.

Ask member Dillen (Martin) for the right ones there are different versions depending on the tapedrive type.

Kind rgeards

What Christian said.
Belts are at www.beoparts-shop.com

Check also that the spindles haven't seized i ndry lubricants. Take apart, clean and add a little fresh grease.

Thanks for all the replies!

I can't see how it could be the belt.  On my deck the teethed spindles don't even connect to the belt.  There is a central motor with a pivot wheel that turns a particular teethed wheel depending on the position.  I do have another belt, but the one in it is working well, and turning the capstan spindles correctly with good traction.

It may be seized due to dry lubricant, but It feels like it is binding on something.  Taking the spindle apart would answer I guess, if I can figure out how to do that - No screw, but perhaps a small washer - very small!

Thanks again, and all comments on this or my sanity are welcome!

The gearwheels are driven by the two flywheels, If the friction of the belt ist too low the flywheels can't move the gearwheels 'cause the belt ist slipping for a moment.

Watch out for the two magnetic hubs, they engage the gearwheels.

Yep, that is the one.  With that central motor.  I replaced the belt, and it didn't help.  Although I get now something different - a repeated 'click' from the piston on the other side, as it turns the right wheel ever so slightly.

I created a clear cassette with no tape so it is better to see when place in the mechanism, and created a youtube of this as well as the back piston.

Thanks again for comments, suggestions, etc.

Oh, your brake solenoid is not behaving nicely. If it didn't do that before, check what has changed.

I have had difficulties with this type many times. Couldn't spot problem, why they wont play, just try both sides and give up, and do not wind. Maybe those cogs in middle just get tired.
