Just came in from work, and my wife said our, son tried to clean his bv7-40 screen ,as it had handprints on it.

Unfortunately he has taken some of the anti relection coating off, also the dvd player has started not recognising discs. It is a mark 2,which I gave him when I upgraded, and is ideal as he loves watching movies on it as he is 10yrs old.

Is it worth saving getting the dvd player fixed and replacement screen,as you can buy used mark 2 for £800ish.I just couldnt throw it away, and  could not live ith the way it is just now.

I have a dilemma now?How much roughly for a replacement screen?

I suggest a new TV.

Replacement/repair costs are a lot... Unless that is if you are handy. And is able to obtain a replacement screen off ebay or something.

Well your son is lucky to have a dad who gives great hand me downs... Not for me unfortunately.... haha...

( PS... After reading this post I feel kinda sad that I might never own a B&O TV cos I don't really watch TV and when I was little younger I fantasized about owning B&O TVs, my house had an Avant way back when but I might really never have one... I might have a B&O projector for occasional film viewing but that is if B&O makes projectors)

A replacement AR Screen for the TV will be around £600 (€720) and a DVD Mechanism around £275 (€330).

If the TV has had low usage, and you can't bear to throw it away - have it repaired!  I wouldn't myself though - for the money I'd rather put it towards a good used Mk3 panel only.

See Butch1 I am not entirely useless or horrible.... Or maybe you have decided ever since..... the linn thingy... what the hell..

B&O is quite well known for expensive repair fees... Completely understandable because of the level of service and the fact that they have the repair parts in stock is quite something to commend about but still...

I dunno I don't exactly trash B&O you know. I am actually a fan. But I wish it can fit into my lifestyle more so I can buy more. Like dear manufacturer please make this and this so I can buy that from you and so I won't buy from somebody else.

Thanks Lee,thats what I thought,I remember paying £300 for a bv3 screen back in the day.The tv does get alot of use since my son and his friends use it,for gaming and movies, when the weathers bad.It still works well, and the marks can not be seen when on,just off.

I wonder what I would get for it used?As I would keep the lab 7.2.Need to dwell on this overnight.Sell screen with 7.2 and replace with all in one,or keep 7.2 and replace with another bv7.

dilemma.

Sad for this information, but a beovision 7 + beolab 7.2 for a 10 years old kid, is it really reasonnable ?

Not really surprised that something wrong happened (glass and cd mechanism are too fragile).

I think that you'd better changed your manner to recycle your old b&o equipment.

There are so many b&o lovers and collector that would love to buy and own a b&o TV at an affordable price.

4 beolab 5,  beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2,  2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...

I know my son is only 10, but he has grownup with B&o like me,and respects it,and everything he has.It has been drilled into him from an early age.He has had a mx,bc1,bv3 and now 7-40 in his room, and has looked after all of them.

He has been taught to keep his room clean and to look after his things, unfortunately, due to a friend touching the screen with greasy hands,my son put too much effort in to his cleaning, and removed some spots of coating. The dvd drive is fragile and gets plenty of use,so I will put this down to wear and tear.Hes a good boy and does well at school,so I will not grudge him having B&0 if I have the means to,it does not make him spoiled.

I am leaning towards just buying a used replacement mark 2 or 3 and putting the tv,in a family members, kids playroom, on a very high wall mount, too spend the rest of its days playing c beebies or something.I would rather see it go to good use.

I have to admit aswell, I could not see a big difference in picture, watching freeview on it,compared with my mark 5.If you dont need loads of connections, they are a cracking buy now.

Oh please.... I think everyone deserves and gets whatever they please.

I mean value is so relative... What is extravagant to some is affordable to others.
