I have what you guys would consider to be an antique system! It’s comprised of the Beomaster 5500 tuner/amp, the Beocord 5500 cassette player, the Beogram CD 5500, Beogram CD 50 and lastly the Beogram 5500 record player. It connects to a couple of tower speakers and two bookshelf speakers (B&O) but my MCP 5500 units are both non-functional. Is there a way to navigate the B&O system without that remote?

Most functions can be done using a Beolink 1000 but some programming etc. can only be done on the MCP.

So, the simple addition of the Beolink 1000 would do most of it?

For example, I would like to be able to do at least the following:

1). Change volume,

2).  Select the component to be played, and

3).  Be able to (via IR) remotely affect these things.

Yes, a BL1000 would be fine for day to day operation, including the things you have listed above.
