Hi Beoworld,
I have a mkII (IR enabled) Core and the Essence remote. Following recent rebuild I have place the Core in my basement and run long SPDIF cables to my Beolab 18’s. It works perfectly with one exception: the Essence remote’s bluetooth doesn’t have enough range to reach the basement.
To solve this I am going to get an IR eye for the core and put the essence remote in IR mode. As I will anyhow hide away the IR receiver I was looking to buy one used. Question is: does the IR eye have to be the new ‘join’ version or will the older version work? I only need to use the IR eye as a receiver, if the buttons on the IR eye work does not matter.
Best, Thomas.

I am very interested in any replies to your question. I have a BS Core (type 3051), which ought to support IR-eye via the DPL-socket.
I have not yet bought an official B&O IR-eye (but I have read in this forum that is has to be the one with the join-button, (type 8089119), as it has the proper RJ45 connector cable, and perhaps there is in addition some applicable software related to this version?).
I have recently bought a non-B&O IR-eye from Bosscom, just to try the IR-behaviour of the Core, before I buy an official IR-eye. However, I cannot get it to work! There is no response at all. I'm using a Beo4, and have ensured to set it in A.Option 1, according to https://support.bang-olufsen.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041742571-How-do-I-activate-sources-using-BeoRemote-One-or-Beo4-
So my questions are whether the IR-eye in theory is plug-n-play to the Core? - Or is there a setup in the B&O App, before it works? Does anyone have any experience with a non-B&O IR-eye for the Core?
chucky:you need to put the core in the right option to receive ir commands. Join will not work if you push on it only on the newer version, but it will receive commands. You need to do this with a BR1 or a BEO4. This is not in the setup.

I guess the (only?) way to put the Core in the right option to receive IR commands is, via Beo4, to set it in A.Opt 1?
I was looking in the B&O App for the Core for a way to put the Core to receive IR commands, and the only setting I found relevant somehow was under Settings - Configuration - Remote Controls - Settings - and tick off "Match mode 4 and mode 0" (Enable operation of Essence Remote in mode 4 to match operation in mode 0). I do have an Essence remote connected to the Core via Bluetooth.
According to details of the Essence remote, Mode 0 is Bluetooth and Mode 4 is Beo4 IR for a BeoPlay system.

chucky: I have struggled a bit in the beginning, I have masterlink tv”s in the bedroom with pl switches. However it works, but do not use a nl ml converter it messes things up

Strange, I cannot get it to work with the BS Core. I do have a NL/ML converter in my setup, but I unplugged it when I tried the settings with the Beo4. And even removed the parring with the Essence remote. I guess my third party IR-eye is the problem (even though the manufacturer promised it is compatible with B&O). Maybe I should get the official IR-eye from B&O now if I can find it (I believe it has been discontinued).
chucky:Did you put it in the dpl socket? Is your hardware above 3...(help me out, first versions do not support ir) I have 6 cores on ir running so i am pretty shore it works

Yes, I have ensured the IR cable is connected to the dpl socket.
The type version on the bottom of the Core says 3051.
So I guess it must have something to do with the 3rd party IR-eye (maybe an open-circuit somewhere in the wires). The manufacturer did however said it works in the B&O environment.
Do you know if it has something to do with the tick off in the remote control settings from the app "Match mode 4 and mode 0"? Of course I have tried both options (to enable/disable the tick off). But I'm trying all possible solutions now.
If you are empty of suggestions I think I will find a B&O dealer with the official IR-eye ;)
Can you send a link to the 3rd party Ir eye you are using?

If you just push on the newer version, join will not run, but it will receive commands. This must be done with a BR1 or a BEO4. This is not part of the setup. According to the Essence remote's specifications, Mode 0 is Bluetooth and Mode 4 is Beo4 IR for a BeoPlay device.
Thank information!

Sure, it is a cable like this:
https://uk.bosscom.com/product.asp?id=1224&m1=1334&m2=1342&m3=&m4=
However, I bought it from a Danish retailer website (https://www.av-cables.dk/ir-eye-rj45-kabel-3536/ir-eye-rj45-kabel-sort-2-m.html)
I believe the Bosscom product is only for SENDING IR commands, not receiving.
It makes sense if that is the case. Thank's for your input.
