$200 for a pair of coiled, black and red speaker cables?  Some entrepreneur here must have contacts who can manufacture them at $12 material cost, and sell them at $50.

Hell, I can have the cables hidden in the baseboard for less than that.

What say you?

Hi,

I had a highly modified pair of RedLine 60 speakers in my main listening room for several years and I quickly ditched the original curly cables for standard "hifi" multi-strand speaker cables as I found the curly cables to perform very poorly.

In particular, the DIN fitting on the front corner of the RedLine speakers was a weak point, as it gave a poor connection and the wiring inside the cabinet connecting this to the crossover was of low quality.  For best results, I always used the red and black spring terminals on the back of the RedLine speakers.

In summary, I think that the curly cords look nice, but that is their only virtue.  By all means trail them across the room for effect, but connect the speakers via better quality cables instead (even if you have to hide the real cables in the wall!) Devil

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.

Hi Jonathan and Steve,

Thanks for the feedback.  I have to admit I am a bit of a sucker for aesthetics (big part of the B&O allure, no?)  My RL140s are being completely refurbished as we 'speak' - refoamed, new capacitors, grill cloths and straps in the next couple of weeks.  The cables would be the icing on the cake.

Jonathan, that is some awesome information re: the DIN fitting on the corner.  Where else but a B&O forum could one learn such information??  I think it's time for me to subscribe.

Still holding out hope that somebody will make a high quality set of red and black cables.  I will gladly overpay for them - just not $200.  And I might seriously buy those :-(

Look at it this way, in the world of high end speaker wires, 200 bucks a pair is chump change! Cool Consider it a bargain!

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

Hi FlintIronstag,

That's a good idea, I will look into high quality coiled speaker cables - I would be interested to hear if red and black is the preferred colour for any other Beoworlders, or if there are alternative colours requested?

I changed the 63 volt rated capacitors in my RedLine 60s to 100 volt versions, just to be on the safe side, as my calculations showed that there could be over 70 volts across some of the capacitors at high volume levels....

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve,

I missed the most important part in your reply - what modifications did you do to your RL60s?

And of course black + red is the most desired combination for the coiled cables - are you serious??? ;-)

Hi,

I wondered if anyone would want white cables instead?

Its a few years since I sold the RedLines, but basically, my modifications were as follows:-

1) Replacement of Auxiliary Bass Radiator with a tuned bass reflex port on a steel panel

2) Replacement and upgrade of crossover capacitors

3) Replacement and upgrade of internal wiring

4) Replacement of damping pads with wool wadding

5) Tightening of driver mountings

6) Building custom hardwood wall brackets

Kind regards, Steve.

Christ on a Bicycle!  Should've just bought some RL140s or 7000s.  Of course, there's joy to be had in the modding.  It's awesome that you have the skill to do it.

Where are my cables? :)

Big Smile

RL140 and RL7000s lack the "Wife Acceptance Factor" of the RL60s!

If you need an update on your cables, please drop me an email at any time.

Kind regards, Steve.

LOL - I think I can understand the wife factor.  Still, if you sell some, sign me up.  I just don't want to pay $200, although I might.
