Hi,

As my Beosound 5 does not tag the ripped Audio files, I searching for the used tags by beomaster 5.

May I explain what I'm searching for:

I want to have my "Bob Dylan" files sorted under "D" for "Dylan" and not under "B" for "Bob".

"The Alan Parsons Project" files should be under "A" for "Alan" and not under "T" for "The".

I always thought that this was not possible in BM5, but today I noticed that "The Alan Parsons Project" are sorted the right way under "A" even with ArtistName "The Alan Parsons Project" these files were ripped a long time ago and I do not even know if this was done on BM5 or using my old windows Vista PC.

My recently ripped Bob Dylan CDs show the same tags, using MP3tag, as the Alan Parsons ones.
See attached pictures.

What could be the difference giving this different sorting?

The BM5 SSD is mounted onto my desktop PC as disk BM-Share$ (S:)

Does anyone have an idea concerning original BM5 file tagging?

Or what does the E:/cache/nmusic.db stand for ?

Artist is stil tagged as Bob Dylan.  Change that and it will be filed under 'D'

For the Alan Parson Project, Just leave out the comma and 'the'

Maybe that will help ?

Mine are edited in iTunes, but that's because I am mac based and transfer the files from there to the BM5

Alan Parsons is an example of how it should be, and that is is possible , Artist starting with T but sorteted under A

I can not inderstand why it is working for alan Parsons but not working for Bob Dylan ???

I am not sure which tag field BS5 uses to sort its artists.
I thought it was just the 'Artist' field, but I never had much of an issue other than with certain compilation albums.

Just change the 'Artist' tag from Bob Dylan to Dylan Bob and see if that works.

for course, renaming to Dylan Bob would do the job.

The interesting thing is that :

The Alsn Parsons and The Beatles are not sorted under T but with the As or Bs.

This proves that there are special rules for sorting and my goal is to find these rules 🤪

A reference librarian pointed out to me that words like “the, a, an, etc.” are referred to as “initial indefinite articles” of speech, and not every language has them. For instance, Polish does not.

Depending on your music “player,” these articles may be ignored in a search or sort. This can vary from player to player. So your music may sort one way with one player and a different way with another.

I now have downloaded the nmusic.db and opened it.

There are 13 Tables:

album
album_artist
content_engine_index
content_engine_index_column
content_engine_state
favorite_list
favorite_list_item
playlist
playlist_item
sqlite_sequence
track
track_artist
track_artist_album

The "album_artist" Table shows that there is a normalized artist name, in this tag "The Alan Parsons" and "The Beatles" miss the "The", I think now that the BM5 introduces this new Tag.

as in the structure there's a command COLLATE i_en_UK, may be thats the reason why the "The" is left away during creation of the normalized name.
