I am considering the BS Core, but still have some old IR products. Does anybody in the forum know the following:

1) Is it possible to control the BS Core with bluetooth (e.g Beoremote One) and IR (Beo4) at the same time?

2) If you are using the core with Beo4 (IR) is it then a way to select the optical input or does the optical input have autosensing and turn on the Core when it receives a signal on the optical input?

I have two cores (newer model). Both are connected to Essence remotes and also to the App. The settings has a remote pairing option but not sure if it is limited to BT only. Yes, Optical is auto sensing. I can’t see how one can turn the auto sensing off.

B&O in my life 😊:

  • Beolab 8002 + Beolab 2 + Beosound Core with Essence Remote (Office)
  • Beolab 6000 + Beolab 11 + Beosound Core with Essence Remote (Bedroom)
  • Beoplay A9 Mk2 (Living Room)
  • Beosound 1 with wireless dock (Portable)
  • Beosound Balance (Dining)
  • Beoplay H95 (Focused listening, travel)
  • Beoplay H9 (3rd gen) (retired)
  • Beoplay P6 (Portable)
  • Beotime wall clock (hallway entrance)
  • BMW X5 50i with B&O Audio Package (Commute/drive)

I have a Core and would love to control it with Beo4 but I don't think it is possible. BM1 yes but not IR controllers. I think?

The Core mk2 has the option to connect an infrared receiver.
I have an Essence mk2. Controlled simultaneously with both infrared (Beo 4 to select source) and Essence remote on the wall for volume and join function

I remember that I had to give an option instruction to get the infrared on the Essence working.

why would you control it with a Beo4 and BR1 at the same time? What is the deeper intention behind this question?

or do I miss something?

The Bluetooth mode is for music and multiroom

The IR mode is for controlling TV sound  (vintage B&O + Lintronic)  which I plan to connect to the Core via Optical

so you're question is: can a BR1 send IR Beo4 like commands; the BR1 bluetooth commands for the Core, the IR commands for your tv and Lintronic.

The BR1 (I did control the BR1 for the Harmony and the Horizon) can be set as operating as a Beo4. If this setting is made, you should be able to switch between sending commands to the Core and to your vintage TV as Beo4.

I see your point.

But how are you going to get ‘TV sound (vintage B&O + Lintronic)’ into ‘the Core via Optical’???

Yes, but I would like to understand if it is possible to adjust the core volume witout change mode on BR1.

not possible, you have to switch mode.

Logic tells that would end in a “mess” if both, IR and Bluetooth would be transmitted at the same time.

For example: the tv is muted and one is listening to the Core. The volume of the Core is increased with the remote. Then the tv volume would also be switched on again.

If that was an answer to my above question, I seem to not have asked correctly.

What I meant was, how do you expect to get the sound OUT OF the old tv - the sound that you then want to feed INTO  the optical on the Core?

Yes, I can.

Changed the Essence mk2 with a newer Core and it works when you use the "DPL" socket for the infrared -eye.
Giving it an A-Opt 1 instruction and the Core responds to infrared. I've used an original eye from B&O with a RJ45 connector.
