Hi,

no, it isn’t what you thought when you read the subject title :)

I just bought a pair of beolab 5s with serial number 179XxXxXx - and according to beotech, the speakers should have pin code protection - but I just can’t activate it (software version 2.61).

the manual states << << STOP while the speaker is on standby and it should alternate flash red/green. But nothing happens. Is there something I’m missing to be able to activate the Pin system?

The PIN code protection has been introduced from serial no.: 17xxxxxx.

Due to PIN code has been introduced in BeoLab 5 there are two Back-up suitcase variants:

3395223 for BeoLab 5 without PIN code protection

3395234 for BeoLab 5 without PIN code protection, US/CDN/TWN/JPN

3395224 for BeoLab 5 with PIN code protection (expected release week 46-2003)

All the BL5's with software 2.xx or 3.xx have the pincode option. The first mk1 with 1.xx have not.

Personally I hate the pin protection. It's far from user friendly. Touch the topplate and giving it remote instructions. Then there has to be some sound to confirm etc. Sometimes there is, sometimes (mostly, and when you're doing the wrong sequence) there is not.
With almost every disruption from power, you need to reprogram.

Yes, that’s my point - software version 2.61 - serial number 179xXxX - but no pin code!

The only way to get definitive answer is to connect the servicetool to retrieve its identity. Perhaps you’re consequently doing the wrong sequence? Right option setting?

Ah, I don’t have that software, but I’m just on l.option 0 (default) and from standby press << << Stop. Then nothing….

can’t think I’m doing anything wrong.

Do you touch the topplate when you use the remote?

No, if I try that, it goes into calibration mode.

Slip of the mind, should be pressed after pressing << << stop.

Yes, that’s what I followed. Strange I can’t get it to work…
