Hi guys, I have the following B&O system:-
Beovision 11 television
Beomaster 5
Beosound 5
Beolink converter Nl/ML
Beolab 4000 speakers
Panasonic Blu Ray disc player
Beo4 remote
Now my issue is that I want to change my television for the new Sony OLED 65” television and obviously ditch the B & O tv.
If I remove the tv and the disc player from the system will my music system still work or are they all inextricably linked. As then I would plug the new tv into my Sky Q box and plug the disc player into the new tv
Hopefully someone can help me.
Thanks
Dennis
Do you use your BeoLab speakers with your TV? As left and rear speakers or as surround speakers?
If not, the sound system will work as always. You could even sell the NL/ML converter in that case. If you do want to use your BeoLab speakers with your new Sony OLED, you could use e.g. an Almando converter, which functions as a hub between your Sony and the Beosound (the NL/ML converter could be sold as well, +/- 300 euros at the moment).
What a pity - sacrificing good sound from the tv and the ease of the integration….for an upgrade in picture quality.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Hi,
Thanks for the reply to my question, I do use the speakers with my tv, but I also wrote an email to the guy who repaired both of my speakers albeit at different times. He has allayed my worries as he says he can integrate the new tv into my system.
So thanks for your help but it looks like I should be ok. I will let you know how it goes though.
No I will not be sacrificing the sound as I believe the guy who repaired my speakers a couple of years ago says he can integrate the tv into my sound system.
However, the sound from my system is good but I have always thought that the bass response is lacking. I have the bass at maximum which makes it acceptable. I think it’s the Achilles heel of my system. Oh and I feel the system is too complicated to navigate your way around.
Thanks for your input. I will update on my potential update later.
I’d be very interested in what ‘the repair guy’ has suggested/promised - please keep us posted.I assume from your initial post, that you want to keep the BS5 in the mix.
Also I am curious about why your current setup is ‘complicated’ - seems a rather basic setup to me.
As for bas responnse - this won’t change, if you connect the speakers to a Sony tv - if you want more/better bas, you’ll need a subwoofer.
Hi MM,
You are obviously the on-site resident expert on all things B&O and I thank you for your advice and comments.
When I originally purchased my system it was from a B&O shop in Oxford, it’s no longer there. The guys from the shop struggled to get the system to work properly and had to seek advice from B&O head office. It took a couple of weeks to resolve and they had to install an additional Cisco systems router as well as the existing Sky router. The wiring at the back of my unit on which it sits is unbelievable. I have never seen so many wires. It’s horrible.
Anyway, they got it going. But it was annoying.
In order to download music to the hard drive I had to install an app. That worked for a couple of years until B&O no longer supported the app, one of the guys from the shop worked out a complicated way of downloading music for me which worked on my iMac. I no longer have my iMac so am stuck with no way of downloading music. I have a cd ripper on the system so could buy a cd but I am never going to buy cd’s again as that’s old fashioned technology.
Basically I am stuck with the music I have on the hard drive. I can and do use Spotify via other mediums but that is not an app on my B&O tv. It has Deezer which I do not use.
Trying to use the remote to navigate and use my system is unbelievably difficult. Nothing is straightforward. Typically, the stand for the tv was programmed by the engineers so that it turns to the required position on startup. But somehow one day those settings were lost and I have to turn the tv to its required position each time I turn the tv on as I just give up trying to programme it. It’s the same for just about any adjustment I want to make.
My system is very nice to look at, the music sounds nice on the speakers. The tv is good but of course television has moved on and that’s why I want a new tv.
i would never recommend a B&O system to anyone. It wasn’t a cheap system but I have been continually disappointed with it.
Regarding bass response, I would agree with you but have had a demo of the latest Sony Bravia Oled 65” and that does have a built in sub woofer which does enhance the bass much better than other Oled tv,s I have seen lately.
My engineer is the local B&O expert as he was used by the B&O shop when they were here, so he knows the B&O systems.
Hopefully I have addressed the points you make.
regards
I was kind of in the same situation at one : either throw it al out and start over (without B&O) , or make it work somehow.
I ended up buying a second hand Beosystem3. They are plentiful available and not too expensive. It will do everything the beovision did.Using most of the same wiring, speakers, beosound5 , beo4 etc. I enjoy the B&O sound every day !The Almando box does the same basically. We just don't have these here in North America.
I just connected a google chrome cast or a amazon echo to one of the inputs in the beosystem3 for streaming music. Works just fine. It's how my wife prefers to listen to her music. Your new tv will probably have apps to stream music on it as well.
I use both an IMac or PC to flip music files onto the BS5 as I do not have a beosound5 cd ripper. It's easy enough as the BM shows up as a shared network thing.Though I live downtown, we experience internet dropouts, which are very annoying when streaming anything. A library device like the BS5 has its advantages at this point.
Thanks for your input Cooldude, you have mentioned several words that I have never even heard of. Such as an Almando box, google chrome cast and amazon echo. Also I do not know what a Beosystem3 is.
Therefore I need to check these things out to see how they can help me.
It all sounds fascinating, also wondering how many more pieces of kit I fit in my cabinets let alone the tons of wires.
So thanks for your input. I will come back to you
beosystem3 is basically the brains in your B&O tv. It is a video and surround sound processor where all the inputs and outputs connect to.The Almando multiplay surround box (almando.com) is similar, more up to date and a much better option if you need the sound processing from both tv and regular audio form the Beosound. The speakers plug right in to the box,
As my tv is still only 1080P (waiting to buy a new one when I move in a few months) so the beosystem 3 is just fine for me. It has master link so it connects directly to my BS5. Both can be controlled by the beo4 remote easily. The beosystem3 controls my TV, beosound 5 and apple tv. and few more things. That's a bonus for me.

That is only partly true.
DWP has a Beovision 11, which is based on the Beosystem 4 - Beosystem 3 worked in the previous BV’s, say a BV7.
But you are right - this also has all the connections you need and a basic surround processing.

it pains me a bit to hear your story - the BV11 really is a nice and versatile and good sounding tv (if you can accept, that it is limited to a 1080p/SDR screen).
Rightly configured with the BS5 using the NL/ML Converter the setup should be good to handle.
Maybe your problems lie in a false or deficient instruction of the possibilities, that it offers.
The guys in Oxford probably have been right to recomment another router, since most average routers are mediocre (especially when it comes to wifi).
That however, should not require ‘so many wires’. An additional router is normally set up with one cable from the existing router…..and every other cable would have to be there in any case, now just from the new device/the Cisco.
They probably went for wired connections (for the BV11 and the BM5) instead of relying on wireless connections.
And router and wires can often be hidden away!
Being hard to handle/navigate - honestly, it sounds as if the converter was not well programmed!
The stand positions can be self-configured, but you’d have to consult the User Guide to get help.
Accessing the files on the BM5 harddrive is - since it is a networked drive - possible from any computer….including adding files.
You are right, there is no Spotify support in the BS5 anymore - and the Spotify app (as well as the Deezer) on the BV11 does not work anymore.
Most BV11 owners have stopped wasting time on worrying about this….they have simply added an ATV4HD box (PUC-controlled and therefore accessable direct from the beoremote) and/or a Chromecast Video dongle to their tv.
This way they have access to a lot of apps and to airplaying/casting from tablets etc.
The BV11 has a built-in Netradio function (that actually works) - which means that you can have easy access to tons of radio stations using the Beo remote.
Also you can access your music files (on the BM5) directly from the BV11 using the built-in MediaCenter there. The files can stay at the BM5, if you keep that or be transferred to a smaller network drive/NAS, which can be hidden away.
If you need Spotify Connect, you can either add a Spotify connect capable device to the BS5 (if you keep that) or you can use a network linked/NL B&O device e.g. a Beoplay M5, a BS Core or a (preused) BS Essence) to get Spotify into the BV11.
Imo the BL4000 can sound very good on the BV11….again if rightly configured.
Adding a subwoofer (like the BL11 or the BL2) probably would match your needs for ‘more bas’.
Basicly - I would say, that you really don’t need the BS5 (and the converter) anymore….if you add an ATV and/or a Chromecast device to the BV11 and use the Netradio on the BV11.
Also if you need audio in other rooms of the house, you can easily add one or more of the newer B&O devices/Beosounds, since the BV11 is NL capable.
I know, this all won’t help you much…..since it requires a bit of experience and skill to setup.
However, if ‘your local engineer is a B&O expert’, he should be able to do that job in a couple of hours.
Lastly - I have to say, that it won’t he easy to add your existing BL4000 speakers seamlessly to a Sony tv….but maybe you can be happy with the Sony on it’s own. And integrating the BS5 also will be even harder.
Not saying that it is impossible, but you will have to know howto there also.

Thanks for the roses - but I am not the only ‘resident expert’ here……and there certainly are many ‘things B&O’, where I am not the expert!
On the forum you can have access to a lot (and I mean a lot) of knowledge about ‘things B&O’ - it just depends on how much time you want to spend and how deep you want to dig.
I am just the one, who happens to have time to answer and commend your posts at the moment.
