I have a BeoMaster 2000 291x  (1983)

 

The problem I have is this, when you press to open the cover you have to lift it, but when you let go it closes it self. I think some thing may be the wrong way round.

 

Help please?

Interesting! Sounds more like the earlier models which had a damped lid. The 2000 should open when you press PROGRAMMING on the front panel. There is a spring which would appear to have either come loose or broken in yours. The service manual is on site.
