Beosound 2300 - Update to wifi and airplay2

Hi there, 

I am looking for some help as to what would be the best way to bring my Beocentre 2300 up to date where I can stream music from my mobile (Airplay 2) also music stations?

Also I was thinking of adding Beolab 2000 speaker in our bedroom, what would the best way to do this with out running a cable from the lounge where the unit is placed?

Hi David,

Belkin Soundform Connect or 2nd hand Apple Airport Express, type A1392, might do the job.

In both cases you’d need a special cable, from minijack to Aux DIN socket.

Personally I’d go with the Apple solution because I am a bit of an Apple guy, it is cheaper than a brand new Belkin AirPlay 2 streamer and it is an all-in-one design, the power adaptor is included in the enclosure while Belkin has an external power box.

Pick the one you prefer then you can stream music from your Apple device.

The radio stations (if this is what you meant) can be streamed via AirPlay 2 with an app such as TuneIn from your device.

If you want something that it is both AP2 and it is a full fledged streamer, that it can directly play music from a radio station, Spotify or other services independently from your Apple device, then you’d need to upgrade to a Sonos Port or a similar product but IMHO it would be overkill for your user case.

Rather than going into that direction, I would consider a brand new B&O Wi-Fi speaker.

For what concerns the BL2000, I am not familiar with it but maybe it might be more tricky as a Masterlink to minijack cable might be needed.

For your Beolab 2000 plans I simply suggest that you drop it. Get something else.

Having being there before, Isecond all the posts above: find a second hand Airport Express base station (i dont know about the belkin thing but won't trust them as they're quick to drop support on their devices). For the Airport base, the PSU form factor one are cheaper but they're close to fail all by now. I've got many failures in line recently with mines. If possible use the Apple TV form factor ones: they're also Airplay 2 compatible and thus allows multi-room from an iDevice.

For the Beolab 2000, I can't say better than Leogonewild: drop the idea. Find anything airplay compatible by itself or with Line-in + AE and you'll be cheaper and easier.

….unless you easily can have a Masterlink cable running from the (converter that you’d need for the) BS2300 and straight to the BL2000 - and assuming the SW of the 2000 supports the A.Aux command, that will be needed for activating the A.aux port on the 2300, where the AP device is connected 🥴

So - yes…as Leo wrote: find another solution.
The only advantage of having the BL2000 in the mix is that you can volume control it seperately and with a Beoremote.

Just to be a B&O purist, I'll offer the following solution -- but I'm sure you won't find the cost to be very attractive.

Convert to an NL system. You do this by attaching an NL/ML Converter to the BeoSound 2300 -- with a BeoLink Converter in-between. You could then add any NL speaker -- such as a BeoPlay M5 anywhere in your home and then those NL sources (Deezer, TuneIn, etc.) will be available on your BeoSound 2300. With this solution, you CAN even add your Beolab 2000 to a wireless access point by connecting it to its own NL/ML Converter, which is then connected to the network access point in that room. For the Beolab 2000, you do need to add the special USB-connected adapter since there is no A.Master or V.Master to drive the ML on the Beolab 2000.

Like I said, I'm sure you'll find this to be too costly of a solution, but it would be the purist solution.

You're certainly right that I'm partly responsible for the shortage of converters since I now have NINE NL/ML converters myself!
