Well, between the mains switch and this it seems my week to deal with dead electronics.
I have an old (I'm the original owner) 1st gen Magnavox branded Philips top loading CD player, an FD1010. I got it out of storage planning on using it with my den system, and it lights up but when you try and play a disc it starts to spin, emits a couple of odd whines, then stops spinning the disc.
I assume it's either the laser itself or the focusing servo, but could be something else. Unfortunately I've not been able to locate a service manual for it. I believe this unit was the basis of the top loading B&O CD decks of the era (mid to late 80's).
Does anyone know anything about this unit? Think I can still get parts for it. I'd hate to throw it away, it looks neater than most newer players, and has a certain nostalgia factor since it was my first player.
Thanks.
p.s. I also have an Onkyo tuner, a T-4, which won't receive stereo, but at least I have a service manual and schematic for it!

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
Jeff,
any chance you have the original Philips name of that thing?
Can't find any magnavox'es in my funds but some VERY old Philips CD players; e.g. CD100 which looks like a top loader...
Picture???

EDIT: probably a CD-101?
Unfortunately the only model number is on the rear sticker that says FD1010S10. I don't have a Philips number, but it says made in Holland 1984 on the lablel. It looks like this:
So this might get pretty close:
Seems like the FD-1000 is a CD100, the FD-1010 a CD101.
Sorry don't have the CD101 but the CD100 could eventually be of some help, too.
And it's german
That would be better than nothing for sure! German, oof, nightmares of my evil high school German teacher!

Maybe you should have listened to him, Selbst schuld
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
Søren Mexico:Selbst schuld
ok, the drawings / schematics itself are in english
There's only one little problem:
It's all on paper and there are some 50 pages, mostly A3
And there are 4 versions of the servo board...
I'll try to PM you the newest one which should be the most likely one to be in the CD101 if ever.
Good luck,

Ja wohl! Her actually...well, come to think of it, while I thought her old then, now I'd consider her pretty hot. In an Ilsa SS dominatrix kind of way.
