Hello everybody

I just bought a pair used Beolab 5 from a B&O dealer (with guaranteeJ).

I use it at a simple setup consisting of a Beosound 9000 and now the BL5!

My problem is that when I turn on the BS there is a high frequency tone in the speakers. I downloaded a app for my phone and it seems that it’s about 6-8000kHz frequency (I have to stand close to the speaker to hear it, but my girlfriend can hear it all the time – really annoyingL).

The sound is the same in both speakers.

According to the dealer it’s caused by my BS9000, but with my BL2 and BL8000 I cant hear it!

If the volume is at “0” there is no tone, but just the next volume level it starts. The noise is the same from low to high volume.

The simple test would be to use another sound source, but I don’t have any friends with B&OL

Do any of you have any experience of how to solve this issue?

Looking forward to your replies.

a couple years ago Sony protected cd's gave also problems in the high frequencies.

It only happend when the beolab5 were digital connected to the beosound 9000.

It was a tikking noise in the high frequencie.

Are you using the specially shielded Powerlink cables?

Is your BS9000 also connected via spdif?

I yes, does the problem appear in Radio AND CD mode?

Are BL5s set to L.OPT 0?

I believe the noise issue was dealt with in a software update to the BL5, contact your dealer and make sure you have the latest firmware on the speakers.

Hi Stefan,

The problem appear when playing CD, Radio and Airplay via AUX. It makes no difference.

The BS9000 is connected only via Powerlink (the specially shielded cables for the BL5). A cable from BS to one BL and from there to the next BL.

What do you mean by setting the BL5 to L.OPT 0?

Maybe the problem doesn`t appear, when you listen to CD via digital spdif. I highly recommend to connect the BS9000 via spdif.

I have the same setup and you can definitely hear the difference...

BS9000 should set to A.OPT 1 or 2, and BL5 to L.OPT 0 BL5 can act as a standalone product and respond to Beo commands directly. In your setup the 5s are controlled via your BS9000, thats why they need L.OPT0. See manual.

But I think the dealer is wrong, it`s the 5s not the BS. Maybe a sw update helps.

Hi Stefan,

Oooh yes, the L.OPT 0 I found it in the manual, and it is set to 0!

Okay, I will try to use spdif cable also, and also get a software update.

I hope that helps!

Thanks for your help so far!

Jakob
