Guys, which one for bass? Have the 20s now. Beolab 28 an upgrade or not?
Ps. At the moment 28 for music omly. Have also the Stage but maybe in near future Stage 2.0 with more connections. Anyone?
Hello,
Ultimately there's no replacement for displacement (though there are some tricks).
The questions worth considering are if you listen to bass heavy music, whether you intend to use them at high volume and whether the room is large or small.
At low volumes until the physical limits of the 6.5" woofer are surpassed they will perform similarly and there the 28 may have an advantage due to its newer and more advanced design.
Above that threshold the bass performance will fall away compared to the Beolab 20.
PS. also crossing my fingers for a Stage 2.0.
Best of luck choosing!

My dealer says BL28 over BL20.
But if I had 20s and liked them, I don’t think I’d trade for 28s unless for aesthetic reasons. I know the 28s are tuned unusually bass-heavy for B&O but between the midrange and bass drivers on the 20, I would guess it’s a very capable and more well rounded speaker.
Another reason to trade would be if you wanted room calibration for a difficult placement. But if you’re looking at sound only, I probably wouldn’t do it.
Currently: BeoLab 17, BeoLab 18, BeoSound Core, Beosound Level, Beosound A1 2nd Gen, BeoPlay S8 Connection Hub, Halo, Essence Remote
Previously: BeoSound 1 non-GVA
This is a difficult question to answer. They are very different. I almost think it is more useful to think of the 28 as an improved version of the 18s. Even though they are not in the same price range. I have always liked the Beolab 20 and in the right settings and especially with movies would prefer them. The 28s however are a lot more flexible and easier to place. So for me its not that one is better than the other. It depends more on how they will be used.
Guys, got a great deal from my dealer and replaced the 20s for 28s. Those 28s destroy the 20s by a mile. Bass setting to - 4 and they still kick ass. Unbelievable how good they are. ARC actived and they rock. So happy!
