Hi, folks. I did a bit of searching and couldn't figure out how to do this right, so I'm hoping you can assist.

I'm a long-time Bang & Olufsen fan in the US - starting back in the 80s (which I recognize isn't that old given what people have, but it was when I started to be able to afford to buy the occasional thing.

Back in the 90s I moved into a house that was already wired for the old MCL whole-house audio. When I moved in, and added some MasterLink things, I bought a converter/amp...and later, when NL came around, bought the NL/ML converter too.

So, there's quite a bit of stuff here.

A while ago I brought my BS9000 back online and today I thought I'd take the Beogram 7000 out as well and try to get it up and runnin...I miss vinyl. (I also recently bought a 4002 that I hope to restore, but that's another story.)

Anyway.

My NL/ML was already set up with the Beosound Moment as a source. So, the ML role is V.Master. The "Secondary source" is the Moment. The "Product controlled by apps" is set to the BS9000. For experience mapped to NL, I enabled A.AUX and renamed it to PHONO (as I recall, the PHONO commands are actually N.MUSIC so maybe I should do that?). The Beogram is connected to the aux input.

But with all that, I play the Beogram, click A.AUX and Join the NL/ML and nothing.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you!

Sure. To simplify things a bit, the BLC NL/ML was already working with the BS9000. BS9000 is connected to the BLC with ML.

Most devices are connected via NL, wired and wireless.

The BG7000 is connected to the BS9000's Aux DIN port.

Here are the settings pages for the BLC NL/ML:

If I choose "PHONO" (I switched it from A.AUX to N.RADIO based on another thread here, but it didn't help), it doesn't automatically play the BG7000. If I start it manually, and then join the experience to get the sound (speakers are not connected to the BLC NL/ML), there's no sound at all, configured as A.AUX or N.RADIO or N.MUSIC.

I put screen shots in my previous message but, unfortunately, the forum either didn't accept them or isn't showing them, so I'm not sure what to do...

First suggestion: you have another device with an A.AUX.

But because of the complexity of setting with a BLC you should profide the requested info.

Afaik there is no communication between the BG7000 and the BS9000.Pin 6-7 aren't used. My BG6500 is controlled via a MCL/ML converter and ML/NL converter. Data from the BG7000 has to be send through another pin 6-7 usable audiomaster.

true, but if the BG7000 plays a record and the BS9000 is set to AUX, one would expect to get sound.

But you are right there is no communication between the BG7000 and the BS9000.

I'd love to do so, but I'm truly unsure about what you want. Let me try to list everything currently connected.

  1. BS9000 connected by ML to BLC NL/ML
  2. BG7000 connected to A.AUX port to BS9000
  3. 2x Beosound Moment, both NL wired (one 'secondary device' is the NLC NL/ML, the other's is the BV14)
  4. 1x Beovision Eclipse, NL wired
  5. 1x Beovision BV14, NL wired
  6. 1x Beosound Core, wireless (just speakers)
  7. 1x Beosound Essence Mk II, wireless (just speakers)
  8. 1x BS35, wireless, just speakers
  9. 1x Beosound Edge, wireless
  10. 1x Beosound Balance, wireless
  11. 1x BeoSound 1, wireless
  12. Various speakers (BL90, BL20, BL3, BL7, BL5000), all connected to NL devices or 'wireless PL'
  13. BLC ML "amp" bridging NL to old system
  14. Some eyes around the house that have old in-wall speakers, almost never used these days since my BS7000 was put in boxes...but will still "work" to join ML/NL playback "in progress"
  15. Old MCL2AV with an old CD4500 attached (not used, both unplugged)

That's pretty close to everything that's actually connected wired or wireless.

If useful, how can I provide the screen shots of the BLC NL/ML configuration, or how can I provide you with the information you are looking for?

I had forgotten that when the BS9000 came out it stopped supporting external devices w/data, so it makes sense that it wouldn't turn on and switch to the right input when playing (and doesn't support starting the device either).

Those were always such nice features... maybe the success of the BG4000c will encourage them to do a new turntable that embraces some of the old, awesome playback "workflows".

As much as digitizing all my CDs over the years has made my collection "accessible" (and re-ripping all of it again when lossless became practical due to the decrease in storage costs), there's absolutely no question that I really miss the focus that comes with the "process"... all the stuff that's like an orchestra warming up, the anticipation and focus on the conductor, and...

I'm going to try to type in the BLC configuration:

Configuration | Settings

MasterLink: ML Enabled (checked), ML Role (V Master)

NetworkLink: Friendly name in NL (BeoSound 9000); Connect to (primary) (BeoSound 9000); Connect to (secondary): BeoSound Moment Family Room

App Settings: Friendly name in Apps (BeoSound 9000); Product controlled by Apps (ML Audiomaster); Icon shown in Apps (BeoSound 9000) [note that the last one hasn't ever worked in OneApp)

PowerLink: Default volume (40); Enable lin-in sense (checked); Line-in volume adjustment (fixed level 40); Speaker on delay on line-in sense (50); Speaker off delay on line-in sense (180)

The above were all greyed out; disabled due to ML role

RADIO | RADIO | Yes

A.MEM | A.MEM | No

CD | CD | Yes

A.AUX | A.AUX | No (originally yes, thought this was the way to get it to work)

N.RADIO | PHONO | Yes

N.MUSIC | N.MUSIC | No

Configuration | IR Mapping (I'm only going to give the ones that aeren't "empty")

IR command | NL product name | NL source

RADIO | BeoSound 9000 | RADIO

CD | BeoSound 9000 | CD

A.MEM | BeoSound Moment Family Room | Music

BS9000 connected by ML to BLC NL/ML
the first BLC

dnanian:
BLC ML "amp" bridging NL to old system
a second BLC or a Beolink MCL/ML or both combined, please elaborate?

No, no additional BLCs (although I have one that I was going to use as a Source Center at some point in the future, it's not hooked up). The BLC and the ML Amp are connected to an ML "junction box", and there's a little B&O "switchable delay unit" that ensures synced up playback (as much as possible).

There are no additional "old" Masters on the network: just the one BLC NL/ML/9000(Primary)/Moment(Secondary) one.

first: as said, you can not start the BG7000 connected to the BS9000 with a remote/app (no data/communication)

second: do you have speakers connected to the BS9000?

if NO try: ML role set to A.Slave, "Connect to" both to "BS9000" (note: this is a confusing name. I would rename it to BS9000 BLC)

Experience mapped to NL: check CD, Radio, and AUX.

In the Moment set "connect to primary" to "BS9000" (or the given name of the BLC), secundary to Moment.

Set the IR mapping correct.

Now I would expect you have a "AUX (BS9000)" source in the B&o app. After you have chosen this source, if something connected tot the BS9000 AUX is playing, the Moment should reproduce this music.

This is the reason I asked for a complete setup description!

In my previous post I presumed the only ML was the BS9000! But you seem to have also a BL MCL/ML converter connected? That is correct?

If so the A.Slave option previous explained will not work (100%) correctly.

Understood, that's why I provided the list, including the MCL/ML "amp". (I could disconnect this completely if I had to, as the old in-wall speakers are almost never used these days.)

Back when I set this up originally (it was some time ago), I'm pretty sure that's why I had to set this to be a Video Master, because the old MCL system amp was basically the Audio Master (I think...honestly I don't remember).

But as it is right now, ignoring the Beogram, the CD and Radio both work as you'd expect. So I'm not sure why the AUX doesn't, regardless of what's plugged into it.

Embarrassing to admit, folks, but I goofed up. I was plugging in the BG7000 into the back of the BS9000, which was on a vertical stand, and working blind, I plugged into one of the PL DINs and not the Aux DIN.

Super stupid mistake. I'm sorry about that.

Once I plugged into the right port, I got sound. Bad, weird, distorted sound...but sound!

Now I have to figure out why the sound is terrible. It's been in a box for a while, and I think the belt(s) might need some work.

But, hey, progress!

Any idea what might be causing the distorted, bad, weird sound?
