Hello members,

I noticed a few threads that were meant for users to show off their best B&O equipment. This got me thinking, everyone is showing off their best gear, but what about their worst/broken gear.

So this is your chance to show off your old cx100's that have foam rot, or your Beogram 1602 that's missing a stylus, or maybe your old Beocenter that's missing a button or the glass doors don't slide right. It might even be as simple as a janky cable you had your uncle assemble after a family get together because he is the only person you knew of at the time who could use a soldering iron. Whatever it is, if its janky or diy, put it here. No shame in posting it, its all just for a good laugh.

I'll start, I have a multi-generational RL60. It has the gen 1 (6503) crossover and tweeter, with the gen 2 (6513) woofers and cabinet. The result, unbalanced audio.

A few months ago I started of with two B&O systems that had one or two of their units not working.

1) Beomaster 3300 with 3300 BeoGram CD, 3300 BeoCord TP, 1800 turntable, and Remote Terminal 3300. Purchase in the 1980s.

The CD player will spin up and then spin down to a stop with the "?" in the display. Replaced all the capacitors but the issue remains... bugger.

The TP player would not move the tape at all. Disassembled the unit, replaced the drive belts that were completed missing and glued in nasty black gooey globs everywhere. I cleaned up all the black stuff, replace all three drive belts, replaced all capacitors, and the now the TP player works as it did when in its purchased pristine condition.

The 1800 received new drive belt, and refurbished MMC4, connects via its RCA wires and a ground wire and plays wonderfully well.

The whole system except for the CD player are working well.

2) The Beomaster 4500 with 4500 BeoGram CD, 4500 BeoCord TB, 4500 BeoGram 4500, and BeoLink 1000 remote. Recently purchased used from an Estate sale.

The TP player ran the tape without issues, but offered no sound. Replaced all the capacitors and now it works very well.

The large heavy BeoLink 1000 remote was not working. Opening the battery compartment I found the terminals were covered with green crud. Cleaned this crud off, placed new batteries in, and now it works as it should, and is a delight to use remotely to control things at a distance.

All the other units are working well.

3) Have pairs of RL 60.2 speakers working without issues with both the Beomaster3300 and the Beomaster4500

4) I have a pair of RL 140 speakers on their way to my doorstep, and intend to connect them to the Beomaster4500. I found these online for sale and bid $200 for them. The S&H was a tad on the high side, but considering the weight and size of these speakers, I'm not surprised.

5) I have the Beomaster 4500 in the LR, and the Beomaster 3300 in my man cave.

6) When connecting the RL 140s to the Beomaster 4500 in the LR, I will be running wires to the backside of the man cave and place the current RL 60.2 speakers high up on the wall bookcase in the man cave, so I can listen the the Beomaster 4500's CD player as the Beomaster 3300's CD player is still not working.

There have been challenges getting all this aging B&O gear setup, but it is now considered by this person to have been a well worth doing project.Smile

Wow that's one repair story. How much did you get the 4500 system for?

I paid $1,100 with no bartering, as the 4500 except for the TP, was tested and in good order. Only one owner and came with all the original packaging, invoices, user manuals, extra cables, etc. It turns out to have been a good investment.
