Does B&O provide some CHANGELOG file? So we know exactly which products will be updated and what are the changes? For example I have a non-GVA BeoSound 1 gen.2 and there is no software update..?
Thid they add it to Stage and Edge ?
Isn't it possible to write a simple text with all products? MUCH faster and convenient than a video. ;-)
TWG: Isn't it possible to write a simple text with all products? MUCH faster and convenient than a video. ;-)
Sure, but Henrik is just showing what he can do in that setup - and for a lot of people seeing makes it easier to understand than reading about it.
However, feel free to make the ‘text’ - would be nice to have ;-)

According to the discussions here on Beoworld and the short video (with good music by the way) the following devices have the update:- M3
- M5
- Beosound Core
- Beoplay A9 MK1
- Beosound 1 / Beosound 1 GVA
- ...
Please feel free to contribute if there are more devices with spotify connect (re-)enabled.
Very interesting that the A9 MK1 is supported again... as spotify support was removed in 2018 which resulted in some angry customers:https://community.spotify.com/t5/Other-Podcasts-Partners-etc/B-amp-O-and-Spotify-Connect/td-p/4393407/page/3A VERY positive move from Bang & Olufsen to listen to their customers and bring back the functionality.
Old & new version numbers, or it didn't happen. (Echoing the car-repair boards where pictures are de rigueur.)
Ex: My BeoSound 1 Gen.2 non-GVA in North America has not moved from 1.11.45905 for months. Also cf. @libor, above. So delete or qualify the BS1 entry. (Knowing that in the other thread his BS1 gen-?? GVA went to 1.10.xxxx but @Hiort did not actually test to see if Spotify Connect was supported(?) is not definitive!)

Seems that these sw-updates are being rolled out differently in different regions….why?

Maybe to prevent all our devices from downloading the new software at the same time, and thus to keep their servers up and running?
My M3's don't see the new software either. The iPhone app does mention Spotify in the settings already. (But other than opening the Spotify app, it doesn't really do anything.)

Yes, but that many devices aren’t there that it would have to take several days/nights.
I contacted the support - all they adviced, was to make sure the app is updated to latest version…..which really does not make sense, when the problem is the missing update of the device.
I wrote back that one of my iPads runs the beta-version (being a beta tester) and the others the latest regular version from the app store.
Since that I heard nothing
As for how this works - the B&O app is supposed to open the Spotify app. There you will have to choose your music and which of your Spotify Connect B&O devices you want to play to. After that you can go back to the B&O app again and from there control the playback (pause/play, volume control etc), you can expand to other devices respectively join from other devices, turn off a specific device or all….just like when you play a radio station.
Actually you will only have to use the Spotify app, when you start and choose your music….which is good, since the Spotify ui is excellent.
Once playing you have can have the full B&O (multiroom) experience (provided your devices are Spotify Connect enabled) - including using the physical remote.
"Yes, but that many devices aren’t there that it would have to take several days/nights."
Exactly, it would be matter of hours, not days. It has been 3 days and there is no trace of new software for me. Also I am in Europe.
I suppose we/some of us will have to be patient, then.
Maybe they need a couple of weeks to roll it out…..in order to hear the feedback from those, who were lucky enough to be the first.
And I guess, that it will start to be really interesting once Spotify HIFI is rolled out too.

The M5 and Core have always have spotify connect though.
So guys, did anobody get the update later? Millemissen?
Henrik wrote this under the video:"Hi guys - now the update should be rolled out.! Check if you can update your product - if not - go into the webserver of the product (the black page under config) see if the update comes up there."
Edit
Hi,
the rollout are started in the nordic countrys first , then after that rest of the world
will beosound edge get Spotify connect as well?
Beouser66: Hi, the rollout are started in the nordic countrys first , then after that rest of the world
That seems to be the reason.
However, one may wonder why the support was not able to provide me with that information (there were three guys involved in my request).
And also - it would be nice, if we could have a scedule for the roll-out.
By the way - if you go to the german part of the B&O website, you will find exactly the same information on use and opdating of the M3 in order to have Spotify Connect there as on the danish part of the site……despite the fact that the update is not rolled out in Germany (yet).

BeoSound 1 2nd.gen (non-GVA, North America) updated from: 1.11.45905 to: 1.12.47108
Spotify Connect is working. Note: You might have to exit the Spotify application and restart it to force it to scan for devices. Should be automatic, but it didn't discover my BS1/2gen/non-GVA/1.12 until I quit.
As expected & reported, my 1.7 BS1 (as an example) cannot be joined to my 1.12 BS1 while the latter is playing via Spotify Connect -- doesn't even show up in the B&O App's list -- but it can be joined while playing from the DLNA server. Whether this is the B&O App being "smart" to prevent it, or some underlying "feature" of Spotify Connect protocol interaction is unknowable for mere mortals, but I confirm the rule stated that the speaker joining must also have Spotify Connect support is true, or "enforced", or whatever.
---> The bug where DLNA playback does not update the counter from 0:00 is still (¡STILL!) not fixed. (Since 1.7. That's at least 3 versions now...)
Minor app bug: Product Settings/About still reports the old 1.11 software version #, even though Product Settings/Software shows the new 1.12 version #. App must be storing it somewhere, because the device's webserver reports the correct new # too.

Strange. For me the app "about" page show the correct SW version for the Beosound 1 GVA.
I'm a bit confused.
The Spotify connect functionality works on my M3's. I received the updates yesterday.
As it appears, Spotify does not allow you to play to more than one device simultaneously (which is apparently standard behavior). That was previously possible if I selected airplay from my phone, but that required the phone app to be running and draining battery. Also L/R channel separation was impossible. Then came the Chromecast stereo pairing, which allowed to use my pair as a stereo pair. I thought that this also required my phone to be actually streaming constantly, but as I tested today, I can shut down all my devices running Spotify (phone and computer) and my stereo pair keeps playing uninterrupted!I can also use my BeoRemote One, the B&O app, or any other way to skip tracks, play/pause, volume control etc.
Makes me think, what were we waiting for? Where is the added value of Spotify Connect if it already worked through the Chromecast built-in?
Chromecast works differently to Airplay.
With Airplay you are streaming (from the cloud) to your phone and your phone sends that on to the Airplay speaker. So yes, reliant on the phone being up and running.
With Chromecast your phone is just acting as a remote (i.e prompt) to tell the CC speaker to get the music itself from the cloud. So once you have done that, you can shut your phone down if you want.
Apologies if you knew all of that.
As for the differences between Spotify Connect and Chromecast, I'm not sure. Of course Spotify Connect speakers dont need setting up in the Google Home app, as they identify themselves to the Spotify app on your phone automatically.
There also be a benefit when it comes to gapless playback - Spotify Connect streams will do gapless I think, whereas Chromecast streams do not. Other forum members may confirm, or not, but I believe that to be the case.
But otherwise, yes I dont have a substantive reason why Spotify Connect is that different to Chromecasting.
crossbytje: Where is the added value of Spotify Connect if it already worked through the Chromecast built-in?

The b&o 'touch to join' feature for multiroom playback works with spotify connect and doesn't with chromecast.

What you describe as the behaviour for using AP2 or CC with the B&O (and other non-B&O) devices is correct - as also Sandyb writes.
This is well-known and used amongst B&O-users.
What makes the use of Spotify Connect (with the supported B&O devices…..which seems to be all now) different, is the possibility to multiroom the stream via Beolink.
Whereas you - with CC - will have to make static groups in order to have multiroom and - with AP2 - will have to add and disconnect the devices outside the Bang & Olufsen app, you can do this within the Bang & Olufsen app, via the beoremote or directly on the devices (Join). And you can add/disconnect the devices ad libitum rather easy, if you need to. Yes, you can do beolink-multiroom Spotify using AP. But at least in my setup it does not work as well as with the Connect version - and Android users can not use AirPlay. I wonder if there is metadata/cover showing on a Harmony/Eclipse (?).
The only thing you must do - which is the difference to using the built-in Deezer - is that you will have to choose your music in the Spotify app……once that is done you have the full beolink experience just like with radio listening etc.
In case you - like me - have one or more BV’s from the BV11/AVANT 1. Gen/V1 generation, these also can be a part of the listening experience….just like with e.g. an A9.
Some people like the UI of Spotify more than the UI of the built-in Dezzer (in the B&O app) - however, that may seem a personal choice.
AND - if that is as important for you as for me - Spotify Connect (and Spotfy Connect/NL) allows for gapless playback.
Sandyb already mentioned that - for me that has always been a main reason to stick to Spotify (try listening to a Pink Floyd album from Spotify either via AP or CC….that is not what was meant with these album).
So the added value is, that you can stay within the Bang & Olufsen experience - this might be trivial to some users, but it certainly matters to those users, who use beolink multiroom……and prefer Spotify as their music streaming service.
(Looking forward to the day, when Spotify starts their long anounced HIFI/lossless version).
All in all….there is not really anything new about it - apart from the fact that now a lot more B&O devices have support for Spotify Connect built-in.
Whether someone will benifit or not, will heavily depend on his/her setup and his/her user behaviour….maybe that someone likes to engage Hey Siri or Hey Goole when listening to music!
To showcase what the difference is (when you prefer the B&O experience) please look at this picture from my setup.
One showing a Spotify stream via Connect and the options to add/disconnect my devices - the other showing the same Spotify stream via CC….no possibility to add the devices directly there.
Aha, that makes it very clear, thank you for explaining!
In my setup, I simply don't have enough Beolink devices to notice the difference, or benefit from this added functionality. But if you do, well, it clearly makes life easier to get hassle-free multiroom sound. (That join button on the device is key!)
I kind of have to rely on AirPlay, as that's the only thing my old Beolit 12 accepts.

Also the app has race conditions with this device, where if you switch states too fast, it starts playing but the right-pointing triangle/arrow icon stays an arrow. So now you press the play button to *pause*! Press it again to play, and like normal it switches to the two-bars pause icon, as it should. Staying in sync is unrelated to the version # bug, of course, but there are multiple little mistakes in the way the app interacts with this particular device's post-1.7 firmware's status reports. The DLNA play counter failing to update from 0:00 still ticks me off the worst... I am really pleased that Spotify Connect is working now -- when B&O finally breaks DLNA playback completely, I will be able to rely on a Spotify auto-playlist of my choosing/shaping. A good 21st-century work-around to maintaining a 20th-century music library!
I posted this in another thread, but it may be better suited here.
Can I make "permanent" groups within the B&O APP. And then use spotifyconnect to play to any of the speakers within this group to play to the group.
And is it possible to distribute a GVA Spotify stream to other NL speakers?
steve1977: Can I make "permanent" groups within the B&O APP. And then use spotifyconnect to play to any of the speakers within this group to play to the group.
Currently you can only do this if you have the Beoliving Intelligence hub. I agree that it would be nice to have a speakers group functionality natively in the B&O app, also to have volume control via the BR One or Halo for multiple speakers together.
steve1977: And is it possible to distribute a GVA Spotify stream to other NL speakers?
I don't think so.
