Hi Beoworlders,

Should you choose Beolab 6000 or Beolab 8000? This video lets you hear both speakers for yourself and gives you the information you need to make the right choice! https://youtu.be/9ANIweC8RgQ

Please let me know what you think!

Kind regards, Steve.

I think this is my favorite video from you so far, Steve.  Your analysis was unexpected, but absolutely spot-on!

I own a couple of pairs of each speaker, and absolutely agree with your assessment.  Both sound fantastic, and both have their own place.

Sources: 2x Beosound Moment • 4x Beosound Essence Mk II
Speakers: 3x Beolab 8000 • 2x Beolab 6000 • 2x Beolab 3 • 3x Beolab 2
Integrated:  1x Beosound 2 • 1x Beosound Level • 4x BeoPlay M5 • 1x BeoPlay A6
Control:  16x* Essence Remote  • 1x Beoremote Halo

* Yes, really! 🤦‍♂️

Agreed. Clear thinking. Great video, Steve.

Question: if you had connected the 8000’s to an AVR in 5.1 config, what frequency would you use for the subwoofer? And what for the 6000?

A bit of a trick question, I know, since so much depends on the room that contains them. Still, *some* frequency must be set.

Thanks!

That is an interesting question, which I will be covering in a future video.  Basically, I would start with the AVR crossover set at 120Hz as this is the frequency at which Dolby surround sound formats start to direct bass to the LFE channel.  Depending on the room, it can be worth trying alternative frequencies of 100Hz or even 80Hz, but it these sound substantially different then there may be other factors affecting the sound, for example subwoofer positioning, or the sub being out of phase.

Hope that helps!  Full details to follow soon on video....

Kind regards, Steve.

It does, thanks. Interestingly, the Yamaha YPAO wants to set the 6000s’ crossover at 60Hz (!), and doesn’t want to send any bass at all to the sub when using the 8000s. I’ve overridden those settings.

I look forward to the future video.
