How can I integrate a 55" Oled TV into the system that I have, all I want to do is replace the aging BV4 50" with an up to date 55" Oled TV (looking at the Sony Bravia XR55 A90JU "LG Panel") my problem is that I need it to work in my Beosystem 3 set up, this set up includes B&O Overture, B&O DVD2, Humax Freesat, Lutron Light panel and the remote wall bracket, everything is programed to and operated by the Beo5 remote, the system also uses the 8000s, 6000s, BL 7.2 and BL 2 sub. speakers
I am not very technical when it comes to cables, adapters etc. that may be needed in the integration, I don't mind having to use two remotes (better with one !!) but I would like everything to work as it does now with surround sound, the system switching between video and audio, with powering off etc.
Anyone out there knows how to do it !!!!! with a detailed "how to"
I would even pay someone to do it for me
HELP NEEDED, THANKS
Hi Graham 60,
If you do not care about the higher resolution of the new panel and are happy with the BS3's HD signal*, the only thing you need to do is to get a cable between the BS3 (either DVI or HDMI, depends on the model) to an HDMI in of the new TV.
Set the new TV to that HDMI input port and you will see the video that the BS3 produces. You will have to switch on/off the new TV with the new TV's remote (unless the TV has some auto sensing that reacts to the signal coming from the BS3). Turn the speakers in the new TV off (in the menu of the new TV) as the audio is managed within the BS3. Maybe you will have to tell the BS3 (in the menu) that it is connected to a non B&O TV.
I am not sure about the IR receiver: does your system have a separate round IR receiver or does the BV-4 panel have this built in (as a black little dome top right)? If the latter is the case, you will need to get an external IR receiver.
It will take a bit of effort and trial, but it can be done. I am sure some people here can help.
Regards,
Johan
* most of the threads you will find on the forum are about people wanting to use the 4K capabilities of the modern TV, and use the BS3 as a sound hub only
"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
The system works off the B&O "IR EYE" (wall mounted) and goes to the multipin IR connection on the BS3
leosgonewild:I rant to supplement Johan mentioning 4K. On a 55” tv there is no need for a 4K signal. You cannot see the difference between a 4K and Full HD panel. (Unless you have trained your eye to do so)

Depends on the viewing distance.
I can see a difference because I am close to the TV.

You can use the Beosystem with any Screen - Just use the 4K content natively and run a sound out to the Beosystem.
Works here with BeoSystem 3 and BeoSystem 4.
You need a Lintronic device if you want to use a Beo 4 only.

I could do with a very detailed explanation on how to do it as I haven't got a clue as to what cables or boxes (Lintron) or other needed, also I wouldn't know where to start if the Beo5 needs programming.
I think I need a "wiz kid" to come and do it for me,
Any volunteers out there ££££££££

It will be a bit technical setup, and I am not sure it will be a good one.
Have you considered a Beovision Eclipse instead?
The problem with the Eclipse is the price tag, plus I don't really care for the look of it and at the end of the day it's an LG TV, I've looked at the Sony Bravia (LG Screen) XR55 A90J and the speakers set behind the panel are a brilliant idea, at least with that concept voices appear to come from the persons lips and not from speakers some 40cm away (bigger the screen bigger the problem)
All I want to do is upgrade to a 55" up to date TV as 55" will fit (width wise within a couple of mm) with the BL 7.2 and I can retain my motorised wall bracket
just need help or someone to link it all together
It is not that hard to do (when you don’t need the 4K-thingy and all the apps etc on the new OLED).
Just do as Johan wrote!
No need for a tv like the Sony with the speakers inside - they would have to be disabled anyway.
But be prepaired for some diy-ing in order to make the OLED-tv fit on the stand above the 7.2.
By the way, I have never heard of a 'motorized wall bracket for a BV4-50'.
P.S. If you really need someone to help, it would be helpfull to tell roughly where you are located.
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
I was thinking of the Sony XR55A90J in case I used it with its own speakers, I also wondered if its speakers could be linked to the B&O speakers.
If you Google "Future Automation PSE90" you will see the stand, if you click on "videos" you can see it in operation, my bracket is programmed into my Beo5 and the screen and BL 7.2 glide from the flat wall position to a position across the corner of the room so you never see the bracket, its a real bit of kit unlike the overpriced "wall hinge" used on the eclipse.
fitting a new screen/tv will be an easy task the BL 7.2 would remain as it is
graham60: my bracket is programmed into my Beo5
my bracket is programmed into my Beo5
The biggest problem I see is that unless you have a copy of the file programmed into the Beo5, you are going to lose the ability to control the stand, because even if you (or someone else) reprograms it, you cannot retrieve the file that includes the IR codes for the stand. The Lintronic box will assist there but only if you have the original IR remote for the stand.
I do happen to have the remote for the wall bracket and I've never thought before but it does control the stand if needed obviously through the (separate IR) that the Beo5 uses
I'm not very technical but give me a mangled car and I'll have it back to how it was before the crash
I'm in the UK WF15 8HU
I'd love to pay someone to get round the B&O obstacles as they don't seem to bother about the losses endured by there loyal customers !!!!!!

Wow - that is a monster - I did not know of that, so thanks for pointing at it.
Yes, that indeed seems to be an easy task.
I hope you find someone in your region to help you - and look forward to see some pics of your project later on.
Hi Graham60,
I'm the wrong side of the country to you really (I'm down in Bristol), but I have a Beosystem3 myself and am familiar with the obstacles you are facing. I don't necessarily have the answers you seek, but I am willing to talk with you on the phone and discuss it. There are ways to trick the beosystem3 into turning ON/OFF non B&O success, but it would take careful planning and probably be best done in stages.
Let me know if you'd like to talk it through on the phone
Thanks,
David

Hi David,
sound interesting that you are able to trick the beosystem 3. Would be you able to elaborate more?

I can't take credit for working it out. Nigel seems to be the man for the job here. But when I get time I want to rework this to work on an Arduino. Useful links:

Hope that helps.
I am also over the other side, down in Exeter, but could possibly help with the programming of your Beo5 if you choose to go dwon that route. The Beo5 should be able to control a Sony (or other OLED) TV providing the remote for it is IR.
Did a B&O dealer programme the Beo5 for you? If they did, you could ask them for a copy of the file (your XML File) on a USB stick and then, with a copy of the Beo5 Configuration Tool, you can update the remote by amending that file and downloading it to the remote. There is a bit of a learning curve but it is doable if you get the file from your dealer. If they do give it to you, you could email it to me to take a look at and see if I can assit.
Stoobie
Stoobie,
I'm not the original OP just trying to help like you.
I 100% agree with you though, I think reconfiguring/setting up the Beo5 to do the heavy lifting here is better than trying to reinvent the wheel and tricking the BS3 to turn the TV off and on. I'm not familiar with the Beo5 as don't currently own one, but It seems like the easier option for now/permanently.
I have the capability to read IR codes/back them up/get the raw codes from remotes if that helps.
I'm happy to help where/if I can.
Thanks David,
I think what I may do in the near future is to buy a Sony XR55A90 tv and then attempt the task of integrating it to the BS3, if it doesn't work then at least I will have a decent TV, it may be a few weeks as I have other more pressing things going on at the moment.
I would certainly appreciate any help possible and will contact you with my tel. no.
Thanks for your response
The dealership where I purchased most of my equipment and who programmed the Beo5 were in Lincoln and they shut down some years ago

Just a thought,
If you instead buy a LG G1, you will have the possibility to integrate it with B&O in the future.
Millemissen: But be prepaired for some diy-ing in order to make the OLED-tv fit on the stand above the 7.2.
I did give the LG tv some consideration but the Sony looks the better tv and the speakers behind the screen are impressive with speech actually coming from peoples mouths instead of a speaker some distance away !!
Hi graham60, about these Sony speakers behind the screen: the TV you mentioned has an input port to drive them from an external source. The port is a 3.5mm stereo mini jack if I am not wrong. It is meant to be used with Sony equipment, but possibly you could drive it from the BS3, if the signal voltage levels permit. But again, this would need a bit of research, enthusiasm, trials, menu settings, BS3 speaker calibration and a special correctly wired cable (powerlink to minijack). And somehow I sense that you are not into such hassle!
I love BeoLabs, but I surely would also appreciate the clean look of a screen only!
Sorry if this only complicates things for you.
i suppose I could get rid of the BL 7.2 speaker if I could fit the Sony TV speakers into the BS3 system but I'm not that clued up as to how to do it, removing the BL 7.2 and its bracket wouldn't be a problem but getting the Sony speakers to work in conjunction with the BL8000s and 6000s probably will be !!!!!!!!
I’d do some tests before ditching the 7-2.
That is a quite potential speaker (as a center speaker has to be) - I am sure the Sony-speaker-solution won’t come close.
I agree

Hi Aussie Michael,
That's correct, I was thinking of using the speakers of the TV for the center channel output of the BS3. So all other speakers remain connected to the BS3 for the rest of the surround sound experience, only the BL7-2 would go. This is what Graham mentioned somewhere in the thread as a wish. But as MM says, the 7-2 is a well performing speaker.
Your other suggestion, to use the TV as the video hub (and let the BS3 deal with the sound) is what most of us do. It does require some additional work to be able to control it all with a B&O remote in that case (PUC/Lintronic, Optical to digital audio conversion etc). So quite a bit more hassle.
Choices, choices.
