Hi Beoworld,
I am a new member of Beoworld and hoping someone smarter than me can help me work out what is going on with my Beogram 4004 :-)
I have a beautiful Beogram 4004 in great condition that was serviced recently by a service centre in Denmark. I moved to Australia and had the Beogram shipped in a container along with other furniture. The Beogram was packed securely (in transport mode, foam padding, plate and tone arm fixated etc.). However to my big dismay when I plugged it in and put on my first record I discovered a weird noice.
I have tried to attach a video but if it doesn't work, here's a link to the video on YouTube.

As you can hear in the video there's a noise that I would describe as some sort of friction, dragging or scratching noise. It always starts and ends at the exact same part of the record (regardless of which record I am listening to). It continues for about 5-7mm right to left movement and then stops (as shown in the video when I move the tone arm).
I have already searched my way through various forums but have not been able to find a similar issue. Any ideas about what could have caused this and how to fix it? I have also reached out to my local service centre in Denmark to get their opinion but would also appreciate if anyone on here has any suggestions.
Thank you!!
Kasper

Since that noise is at the platter frequency, I would check if there is one of the wire bundles sticking up and hitting the platter. You can check if it related to arm position by by using the clean record mode by pressing 33 and also checking whether it varies as the arm travels across the record, There is also the possibility that one of the transport screws is not completely loose or that the suspension is not leveled. With he top plates off check that there is equal green leaf spring action at each support point.
Thanks for the quick reply Mark. I think your analysis is spot on. It’s definitely at platter frequency. I removed the plates and had a look. I could see anything obvious poking up however it’s definitely something rubbing against the platter from underneath. Interestingly after prodding around and putting the plates back on the sound is now much less obvious although still there. It could easily be that it’s not fully balanced after the shipment. I checked the transport screws and they all as lose as they can be. I’ll try to see if I can find a service manual to adjust the levelling.
Thanks again :)
