Hey,

I'm in the process of renovating a Beogram 1200 with came with phono cables instead of DIN cable.
When I connect it to a Beomaster 5500 there's a annoying humming when using the deck. I don't think it's the 5500 as I have two and have tried both. The cables includes the lead which I connect to the finger screw on the back of the 5500.

Now when I insert the original pre amp card in the deck and connect the phono cables to line in the humming is gone. That tells me that the issue must be in the deck but all connections seems in the right place so I'm a bit lost.

The DIN cable has a double shield. Each channel has a shield and the entire cable has one. It’s quite possible the phono cables were not grounded properly inside. Generally, tying all three together at a single ground point has worked for me in the past.

Thanks Mark,

I was thinking along those lines so I decided to replace it with an original DIN cable and voila the humming is gone. But if there ever is a next time I will try your advice.
