Soren (Mexico) has agreed to give my BC5000 a good home.  You can read some trials and tribulations about the old girl in this archived thread.  That link is to Jari's BC5000 belt replacement thread, part 2.  This link is to Jari's belt replacement thread, part 1.

In the photograph below, you can see the deck isn't in too bad of shape.  There is a blemish to the plastic cover in the upper left that should come off, but part of the film covering the plastic toward the middle-right has come off.  The person that I purchased the deck from had taped down the plastic cover to the metal keyboard.  When I removed the tape, the film came off with the tape.

Long story short:  back in December 2011 I was looking for a deck to match with my BG4002 -> BM4000 -> BV M70 system.  Despite reading about the troubling reputation of the BC5000 Type 47xx on this forum and elsewhere, I found one on Ebay that needed belts for a small enough price to give her a try.  Martin (Dillen) supplied some belts, Jari's directions were great, Jacques was having a go as well, and I went for it.

Got the deck apart, got the new belts on, got the deck back together, then broke a PCB when I had trouble keeping the counter belt on.  Jaff supplied a replacement PCB, got it back together, but never could get it to work right.

This picture shows some old belts and the half-repaired original PCB with a counter attached.  Funny aside:  the PCB Jaff sent along had been broken as well!  Aside/warning to Soren:  when I replaced the PCB, I cut quite a few wires and spliced them.  I intended to do a more proper job of replacing/resoldering the wires if and when I ever got the deck working properly mechanically.

Perhaps the only thing keeping the deck from working is that I didn't get everything aligned properly when I put the mechanism back together.  You can see in this picture the cassette well is rotated a few degrees clockwise from where it should be.

Anyway, the deck has been sitting in my attic for far too long, and to be honest, I'm no longer interested in "matching" a deck to my main system.  I have a BC4500 and a BC3300 in the system (plus CD X) and am happy.  I have watched folks like Soren and Sonavar plug away at restorations and have admired their stamina and tenacity.  I offered up the BC5000 in one of Sonavar's threads, and Soren accepted.  I hope to get the old girl on her way to Mexico in a day or two.  With his stamina and tenacity, along with skills and equipment I do not have, I'm sure Soren can get the old girl running fine.

Thank you for posting the links, I'm now into nervous mode and will be so until I have the BC in my hands, I will do my very best with it, BC will be a new experience for me, until now I only did amps, BGs and speakers. Time to start reading and studying until I can get up to TX for pick up.

And Rich, one more time a big THANK YOU, Beoworld and its BeoVirus infected members are wonderful.

Looking forward to that Søren!

There are a few caveats though, especially when you put everything back together!

I have the original service manual with additions...  in French language which is very rare.

We are ready then.

At the moment I'm making offers on work up in Toreon, that would fit with picking up the BC.

And Rich, delivery is 8 days before my birthday, its better than Xmas, last year I completed my 5000 stack on my birthday, may this continue year after year.

Its a joy to receive items from fellow Beoworlders, always well packed. I´m in TX now and unpacked the Beocord from Rich, no space for the big box in the car. Going down to the CITY tomorrow.

Is it home yet?

No picks from the packing, but here goes

The Number

The Beocord 5000 and what came with it, envelope from Martin with the belts, the changed PCB.

And here what I found, unpacking here in the city, one loose screw, wonder where it came from

The primary belts for the transport that came from Martin are already installed and should be OK.

Yeah - you'll need it!

I suspect this deck will take a back seat to the reel to reel, though.

I dont think so Rich, I will have to open the items one by one, check whats needed and then wait for spares to come in, after the first check I think I will concentrate on the Bc 5000, but lets see what the weekend brings.

I wouldn't bet on that. Mine (2 of them) sound pretty good, especially with pre-recorded tapes.

Any questions will be welcome of course!

What all did you bring down on this trip?  Wasn't there another set of speakers as well?

Hey, Jacques.  How are things?

Are you still active on TapeHeads.net?  I found that site when I was fixing my Nakamichi BX-300, and I saw that you and Soren H were carrying the B&O torch over there.

Hi!

Things are good, thanks. Not doing anything on Tapeheads at present, but still following a few threads!
