Trying to connect BEO6 to Beomaster 5 / Beosound 5 - Does BM5 need to be on wifi instead of ethernet?

Hi fellow Beo6 denizens. I finally dedicated a day to getting my Beo6's working for the first time. I got the configurator tool on my 64 bit Asus NX90 (The David Lewis designed laptop with B&O speakers), and to my utter surprise I succeeded in building configurations and loading them onto the Beo6s. It commands my system just fine via IR, such as N.RADIO on the Beosound 5.

My setup: an Arris wifi router, with the Beomaster 5 connected directly to the router via hardwire ethernet. I log into the BM5 from a Mac laptop which connects via wifi. The BM5/BS5 is in "not audio Master" mode, on master link where the Audio Master is a BS9000.

The Beo6 connects to my wifi with no problem, but does not find the Beomaster. What else do I need to do to make this work? Does the Beomaster need a USB wifi unit instead of going hardwire to the router?

Thank you,

Gregg in Colorado

Thanks Keith. Right after messaging you, I re-upped my gold membership and corrected the email address. Please send again.

I used the member-written guide in the wiki to get to where I did. I did not find a good explanation of how to resolve the issue I'm having. The most basic question I have is: do I need to attach a wifi dongle to the BM5, or should it work with the BM5 connected via ethernet cable to the wifi router that the Beo6 is connected to. It seems that the Beo6 should have an option to enter the IP address of the BM5 so it can find it.

Thanks,

Gregg

Yes, it should work that way.

Like I said in the previous post, there must be a way to set the BM 5 server address. I found a thread on here (Beo 6 and Beomaster 5) that states the obvious, you set the IP address of the Beomaster 5 in the Settings/Wireless/Server IP on the Beo 6 (accessed by pressing the red dot and center button simultaneously to get to settings). I did this, turned on N.MUSIC and IT ALL WORKED!

Now to figure out how to make the IP address of the BM 5 fixed so this is a one time thing....

This information on connecting to the BM5 is on page 13 of the Beo6 Guide.

I think you can fix the IP address in your router settings. Take a look in the router user manual.
