Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice please. I'm by no means experienced in B&O or any other audio equipment for that matter but I'm looking to improve my listening experience. I'm currently listening to my CDs on my Beosound 1 which I've had since 2007 and my downloads on my Beosound 8.

I mostly listen to downloaded music these days on iTunes. I've recently been into my local B&O store and had a demo of the BeoPlay A9 which to my untrained ears sounded great and would seem to suit my needs. I was also given a demo of some Beolab 6002s and was told I could have a free playmaker which also seemed to suit my future use.

The Beolabs with the free playmaker would cost me £2600, the A9 £1700.

I've also been looking at some used Beolab 6000s which are going cheap on the Internet. I was thinking about setting these up with a playmaker or Airport Express. This would be a much cheaper option for me as I am on a budget.

I would appreciate your far more experienced thoughts on these options? Is there much difference between sound of the 6002 and 6000s?

Thanks

Mike

Buy a BeoPlay A9 ! It sounds great. Easy to install, no cables, good Airplay for your iTunes.

The decision on which to buy has to be a matter for you and your wallet! Smile There is very little difference between 6000s and 6002s. The 6002s have ICE amplifiers in them but they are no better sonically than the AB amplifiers in the 6000, just cheaper to make and produce less heat. The A9 is an interesting device and could well be a good idea. Separate speakers are however more flexible and can be used later in a surround system and will give a better stereo image. I would also recommend listening to Beolab 4000s as I think these sound better than 6000s and will be cheaper, especially second hand.

If I was in the market for some new B&O speakers, I'd go for the A9.

It does sound fantastic, you can move it to another location in your home, with relative ease, you can stream your iTunes audio directly to the speaker (and control it via your iPhone or iPad) and you can do the same for the tracks stored on your NAS drive.

I was never overly impressed with the BL6000s. They were the first B&O speakers I owned, over 10 years ago, but kept them for 6 months. They just lacked 'oomph'.

Me too, and think about upgrading the quality of your music by using something like Spotify. Wether it's elevated bit rate makes that much difference I can't testify too, but it can't not help.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

I personally would always pick "proper" stereo speakers over the A9, but if you like it's design, and supposedly it is very good sounding, then you get the complete all in one package you might want. And it's new!

For the same price you'll be able to pick up a used set of BL6000/8000 speakers, and a Playmaker.

The AE isn't recommended as is does not have a good DAC. (New AE might have gotten an upgrade)

The A9 is a very good sounding all in one system. Personally I'm not to sure about the way it looks, but I have to say it looks better in the flesh than it does on pictures. As much as I like the idea of an all in one system the separate speakers will give you a much better stereo image. I've always been a bit disappointed with the sound of the 6000's and have to agree with Peter that 4000's sound better. I also prefer the sound of 3's to 8000's.

Thanks for all your views guys. I love the A9 but budget is very tight at the moment. I may be able to get my hands on a nice pair of 6000s in excellent condition for £350.00. Decisions decisions.

Just be careful the drivers and tweeters  are are OK!!! If they are going cheap there may be a reason.
