Hi Beoworlders,

Did you know that Beolab 9 has wide and narrow sound modes?  All is explained in this video! Plus a sound test against a mystery Danish loudpseaker....

Hi Esax,

Wide/narrow description is at 14:50.  Thanks for your feedback about video length, I will bear this in mind for the future.  In the meantime please play this at 2x speed if you don't have time for the full video (although please rest to normal playback speed for the music tests or you will spoil the sound) Big Smile

Kind regards, Steve.

Hi Steve!

Will the same work for the other Beolabs with ALT, like Beolab 18?

Best Regards

Robert

Hi Robert,

I suspect that this may be unique to Beolab 9, but I would be interested to hear from other owners of acoustic lens speakers with their thoughts.

Kind regards, Steve.

Thanks for the credit on the correct ‘mystery speaker’ guess, Steve!

The fact is you left enough of the base plate uncovered for me to recognise it. Plus I’m a deeply sad nerd, obviously!

Hi Adam,

Glad to see I'm not the only speaker nerd here! Big Smile I did leave that deliberately visible as a clue, nice to see that someone spotted it!

Kind regards, Steve.

Just experimented with my 2 Beolabs 3 on high stands wich are each in a corner of the room, 30 cm from the wall.

I did 'Toe in", 'Toe out' and straight.

'Toe in' sounds good in front of the speakers.

'Toe out' sounds a lot colder, but everywhere the same in the whole room.

'Straight' or slightly 'Toe In' sounds as the best compromise for the whole room.

well with the best will in the world I sat through this to the end!

Its back to school time I think, the secret is for wider sound - move the speakers!!

Why didnt I think of that

Hi Steve,

It looks like Geoff wrote about toe in 8 years ago. So maybe its a good idea to toe inn all Beolabs with ALT?

"However, I will say that, when we do listening tests with any loudspeaker (BeoLab 5's included), we always toe-in towards the listening position. The only times I do NOT do this are when we have a VERY large group in the listening room and we have to cover a wider listening area."

Thanks Robert,

That is interesting to read.  Good to see that my views aligned with Geoff's guidance! Cool
