I wonder whether it’s possible to use a DVD2 without SCART connected - or if connected to an IR Eye instead of a B&O TV or Beosystem.
having upgraded from a Beosystem 3 to a Beosystem 4, I’d be keen to keep the DVD player - even though I wouldn’t use it that much!
Yes it is possible to use, but not with B&O remote control.
You would have to make use of the six small manual buttons on the rear of the DVD2 as follows:
S1 Open / Close
S2 Next
S3 Standby
S4 Record
S5 Stop
S6 Play
Plus there is a 'G-link' socket that may possibly receive a data/control signal from another non-B&O device (perhaps on which the DVD2 is based).
Hi,
I have not tested this myself but you can try on own risk.
Connect DVD2 to BS4 via HDMI.
Get an IR eye and a spare SCART cable.
The IR eye will need 5V power supply e.g. via USB Charger.
See IR eye diagram. Black wire in a USB cable is ground and red is 5V+
White and Green is data. Isolate those.
Now connect the IR eye ground to PIN 21 (ground) in the scart socket. And the IR eye 'IR/DATA' to PIN 8 (data) in the scart socket.
See IR eye diagram + Scart diagram. Google and Beotech.co.uk will help.

Thanks, but what I was considering is for the IR signal to be injected into the SCART pin.
Thanks. I suspect this may work, but maybe modulation would need to be removed before inserting into pin 8. Suppose I could give this a try, but wondered whether anyone else had done this previously.
If I remember correctly the DVD2 is a modified Philips machine. The G-LINK socket is a Philips thing Bang & Olufsen did not even bother to remove/hide...
Yes.... You are right. I have got the datalink signal FROM the TV via Pin8 and Pin21 to control Kodi on Raspberry Pi.
As mentioned never did it the other way around. But the DVD2 also uses this pin to provide aspect ratio. I forgot about that before posting.
A circuit will be needed.
This might help.
From Keith. Remember having seen it in another post.
this circuit diagramm can only be used to seperate the datalink signal from the pin8 of the SCART connector.
I would recommend just a 220nF film capacitor between pin8 of the SCART connector and the IR Data line of the IR receiver to block the signaling voltage of the DVD2 to 'rush' into the IR revceiver. The data received from the IR receiver will be 'modulated' onto the signaling voltage and the DVD2 can receive the data. A similiar circuit, like posted before, in the DVD2 will split the incoming data signal from the outgoing voltage. So this might work by just adding a capacitor for coupling the IR to the DVD2.

Frog, why bother when you can buy the panasonic ub820 control it perfectly with PUC and its a player in a different leaugue screen mirroring inlcluded and apps as well
Upscaling is superb
Thanks RaMaBo, maybe worth giving that a try. It would be a shame to lose the DVD2
@355f
really, I don’t use DVDs and I certainly wouldn’t buy a player. All of my media is either streamed or from NAS nowadays. Just wanted to see if I could keep an iconic design alive.
