Hi,

Adding to my pile of unfinished projects is a pair of RL 45.2. They were cheap so I could not resist getting them. The description in the ad said dull sound on one of the speakers. When I hooked them up to my BC9500 it became obvious that the tweeter is not sounding at all. So I opened up the speaker and measured the tweeter which is 0 ohms. That leads me to believe that the voicecoil is broken somewhere. So I guess I need to find a replacement tweeter. Looking at the service manual I found out that the tweeter is the same for the 60.2, but not same as in the original 45 and 60.

So do any of you guys have a spare one for sale? I will try to call the B&O repair center tomorrow but I have low hopes.

Hi,

Did some research on the actual tweeter. The make is Vifa of Denmark and the model D19TD-05. Surfing the web I learned that this model is a classic that can be found in many branded speakers like Mission etc. Unfortunantely it is also obsolete. Looking at ebay replacement units were either crazy expensive or wouldn't ship to Sweden. Luckily I found two of them used at "Blocket" which is similar to Craigslist for a good price. So I keep my fingers crossed that once they are here, I can pop them in and enjoy my speaker.

Hi,

Time for an update. The replacement tweeters arrived and they popped straight in without any hassle. I hooked up the speaker again and it played beatifully again, now with full treble. Comparing the two speakers with A/B listening revealed no noticable diffrerences in the treble, so even if the VIfa tweeter was of a later batch it seems to be following the original spec well.

The RL 45.2 may not be a match for the bigger brothers in the series but I think it pairs up well with the BC9500. Hopefully somebody can use the information in this thread if they wound up with a dead tweeter for the 45.2 or 60.2.

Bye for now,

/Mikael
