Seems that the Google straitjacket era is over.

One dependency less! Hopefully they will remove the Internet access dependency too.

Reminder: assuming you have an internet access outage at home, the app will not start and you’ll not be able to control your products to play local content.

Does this mean there are no longer any downsides to getting a GVA version?

I also wonder if sharing line-in with GVA version would still be limited.

But what will this change mean in general? How could it impact how speakers are set up or used? If you’ve set up your speakers in Google Home in addition to the B&O app, will you also need to re-run the first-time setup? Many questions…

You shouldn't need to, the speakers are exposed to Google Home via the Chromecast APIs which aren't going to vanish, it's just how B&O rather lazily implemented Google Home to do the initial Network setup.

Actually it wasn’t a must to set up via Google Home.

It is just that the user was promted to in the app and therefore would think that it was the only way to do it.

That seems to have changed.

I have wondered about that too, but never tried :). Nevertheless, I hope they won’t stop at Beosound 1, 2, etc. but go on to ditch Google Home for Mozart speakers too.
