I'm currently enjoying my vinyls on a Beogram 4002 (no quadro) and I have the pleasure to select between two different cartridges. One MMC 4000 and one MMC 5000. In my ears they sound more or less the same.
What is your opinion, which one of these should, technically, perform the best?
As both cartridges are over 40 years old, I believe you’ve answered your question. While in their first year there would have been a bit better high frequency detail from the 5000, that difference was lost long ago. I would have their stylus wear checked out so that you are not damaging records.
Both cartridges have been inspected by professionals and are in very good conditions, they are however not compared to each other in its performance.
