Hi all!

I've got a pair of Beolab 8000 speakers from roughly 2005. I've tried plugging things into the phono line input and, although it does function and the audio plays ok, I also get a loud high-pitched static noise, which seems to mostly come out of the little tweeter speakers. I wonder if anyone might have any ideas about what I can do about this?

For context, here are a couple of things I have used:

1) TV Optical audio (toslink) output -> Optical to phono converter box -> speaker line in

2) Mobile phone aux output -> Aux to phono adapter -> speaker line in

In the case of 1), the static noise even continues when I turn off the TV and turn off the optical to phono converter box (but the static does stop when removing the phono cable line in, so it does seem to be something to do with the line in). Another point to note is that when increasing the volume of the signal, the static noise still stays at the same volume as before.

In terms of troubleshooting, I don't have a functional head unit, so I haven't been able to test it with the Powerlink input to see if it has the same problem here.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks

I’ve recently posted in the workbench forum about my issue with the BL8000’s RCA jack. In my case the jack can be jiggled a few millimeters and is loosely connected to the pcb, causing a noise isn’t static but a howling power hum. Maybe take a look at the post then see if your RCA jack is an issue. Good luck.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion! I will definitely open mine up and have a look.

However, my feeling is this may not be the source of the problem because when I plug a phone into it via aux -> RCA the hissing sound only happens when some music is being played on the phone -- the speaker is silent as soon as I turn off the music.
