There's a watch forum, that I hang around a lot on. Beocool is also a member there, I'm sure there's others on this site.

I've been on there since 2009, and clocked up almost 10.000 posts.

The watch forum is amazingly friendly, just like Beoworld used to be. Moderation is very strict and I'm glad it is. I've been warned there a couple of times, and being a paying member won't give you a free-pass.

The ban button is frequently pressed by the moderation team. So frequently that I got a small shock when I joined. Reason for this is partly because of being a high-end watch forum with lots of sales going on between members, the forum needs to protect the good guys from the bad, but also, there's never been the escalating rudeness and personal attacks as some members on this forum have been carrying out for years!

Sure, there's rudeness on the watch forum too. Plenty of trolls joining, getting around to doing a few stupid posts, then BANNED Yes - thumbs up  usually for life. If you do something dumb unintentionally, things can get a bit heated on weekends, you get a slap over the fingers, relax and it's all ok.

The watch forum has 97.000 members. And these are controlled.

I'm not saying Beoworld has to operate exactly the same, but the feel of the other forum is welcoming and open despite it's strict rules of conduct. It's very much like real life. I mean in real life, tell the wrong person to f*** off and you'll be missing teeth.

This site has been infested with internet renegades. Bullies who take pleasure in destroying this good site for some unknown agenda...

I hope the forum is getting back to its former glory, and if we together filter out these problems we are facing I'm sure the old members (who has been the backbone of this site) are surely to return, and good new members will stay on for a bit longer.

The other forum is driven without the use of advertising, and is dependent on its "pledge members". I don't know if there's a lot of Gold members on beoworld, but I've been one for years, and I would like to be a supporter in the future too. But if the forum is let to decay to a rotten reminisce of itself, why would anyone like to support that?

I don't mean to upset or disrespect any of the moderators, one of who is a friend of mine nor Lee who I consider a personal friend.

But I think by reading this thread, we have the recipe for change in our hands. How about using it this time?

-Andreas

We need an ignore button.

Just take a look at the exchange between Electrified and j0hnbarker on 25th Jan and you can see what Electrified thinks about himself and his influence on others. I guess these sorts of personalities get us into wars. They  know exactly what they are doing yet they can't see the consequences.

John:

I must say though, even as an Apple as well as B&O owner, I find the derailing of threads by repeated comments as to how an Apple product is so much better than B&O somewhat tiresome and unnecessary, and also in particular the constant sniping at B&O as 'overpriced or poorly performing tat' etc - I do think this comes under the heading of trolling, and whilst these sorts of comments are 'opinions' and free speech and all, there is enough of the objectivist within me to expect some sort of backup proof for these sorts of claims, otherwise it is just meaningless noise, and ultimately destructive to B&O to anyone new to B&O's products, or thinking of purchasing them, reading or researching on this site.

I'm all for free speech, and in particular, constructive and fair criticism, but baseless comments that brand X is sooooo much better than B&O type claims are, IMHO, - and without at least as a minimum carefully controlled blind listening tests to support the claims, and/or measurements, - simply nothing more than the unsubstantiated claims commonly found on every other HiFi/AV forum, and something I don't expect to find here.

And vice versa (although it happens an awful lot less frequently)!

I wholly agree with the Apple thing, I've called for it before several times and the dog now hides when he sees me logging onto Beoworld, it hates shouting! I only wish the press would done the same!!Sad

Great move........ it feels better already!

Aggression is the key word here - an aggressive post should just be deleted. Any repetition and the person should be banned....preferably for good!

I would request the help of the members with the moderation. If you press the MORE button (top right hand corner) on a post, you will see a report button. Please use this if you come across an objectionable post. The moderators will then deal with the post.

I just self-moderated my last post.

I, like all of you, have very heartfelt regard for BeoWorld.

Sometimes, I tend to be a bit overdramatic.

If we had an IGNORE button, I would have ignored myself.

Baseless comments by ignorant people are really tiresome!

I am one who keenly appreciates the moderators, having done same myself I know it's a thankless job too often, people get PO'd if you do or don't do something! Herding irritable cats is an apt description, but I appreciate the effort.

I do think it's more needed than in the past if what's happened lately is any indication. Our relatively quiet little backwater has had it's waters roiled, things which should have been handled more authoritatively have built up a bit of steam, etc. With support for the moderators doing what they need to do it should return I think.

I never understand the need some people have of promoting strife, and saying things they'd get their teeth handed to them for if they did it live. It's like walking into a long standing party where most people know each other, walking up, farting loudly and with great olfactory prowess, and then acting insulted and put out that you weren't immediately showered with praise for your offering. The act itself is bad enough, when called out on it too many of our net trolls will get their noses out of joint, the problem isn't their boorishness, no no no, it's your plebian sensibilities!

So, hoping things get back to normal, and thanks for your efforts. Behind your efforts, let there be found your efforts.

Jeff

Jonathan just a note. Maybe people are ignorant but B&O's don't tells enough specifications about their products. My BeoDealer can not answer me which sort of DAC is used in the playmaker. Really embarrassing for him and me. If anyone knows thanks to inform me.

I haven't a clue as to what sort of DAC is used, but is it really important? I suppose you might want to know upper bounds, 96khz/24 bit, that sort of thing, to see if it would decode high resolution audio, if and when that ever really makes it, but since the type of DAC is seldom truly relevant if it's done halfway correctly, does it really matter? B&O has always been about, does it work when I turn it on and sound good. They've never been very forthcoming with specs, letting others do that. The simple B&O question always seems to have been, is it easy and elegant, and sound good, with minimal effort. Since most people perusing specs are about completely clueless when it comes to whether or what makes any differences, it's just making yourself feel better about your purchase, if you value the latest circuit topology. I have an outboard DAC, I have no idea who's chipset it uses, but it sounds just wonderful, gets rid of the noise and ground loops from my PC sound card, and wasn't much money. My only question re the Playmaker is, does it sound good? Don't care about specs for anything other than speakers and crossovers, those sometimes matter, especially LF limit for proper integration to a sub.

There's no end of gear that "specs" very well and is unreliable and of poor quality. And is a nightmare to use in daily life.

rather than have an ignore button why not just ignore the posts and rise to the bait?  If you choose to ignore and not answer the trolls will get bored and look elsewhere!!

I have noticed that members that used to answer technical questions are no longer present and many post disappear into oblivion and the posts about arguing ice amp technology keep rolling on.

People on the net are often totally different in person, the ability to be anonymous means people can act different and upset other without repercussion

Point 1: I agree, but in this forum I would only need to ignore two people. In this way: an ignore button could help.

Point 2: That would be sad. I hope: The members driven away will come back soon ...

Point 3: I prefer being anonymous in general. For there are too many nosy companies trying to deal with my data. And I personally know more than one person giving political statements in public with their real names and being tortured afterwards at home in their country.

But some people need some advice or correction on manners, if they have no respect to others ...

At last: Thanks to the moderating team for their work up to now.

The tone of many threads here put me off posting, viewing, renewing my gold membership and just generally put me off.

As it also co-incided with the ( to me) slightly less intuitive, familiar forum style, I just got out of the habit of posting here.

Occasionally do, but will see how things go.

Best wishes to all here though.

on a more serious note, I hope we do not ruining the point of this tread...

I too have beoworld to thank for much of the knowledge I have today, and I read a lot more than I write (for now at least) and I completely support the moderator team in this effort because it had become completely frustrating to try to follow a tread and try to learn something without unnecessary "interruption" of B/S

so once again thanks for your efforts
