Does anyone know of a document or webpage that details the history of BL90 software updates and what was added or changed with each update? I could have sworn it was on Geoff's blog but I can't find it!

The reason is that I recently discovered that my BL90s are running very old software (Version 2.3.2) and I'm intrigued to know what I'm missing out on...

Good Day.

In the early days, there was a clear road map published of the technical features due for roll-out. This was removed from Geoffs web musings several years ago.

This was an important guiding document that was not always adhered to by B&O. In context, you have to remember that when I purchased my BL90s (4th set in the UK and before most Dealers had their sales copy), the BL90 could not room calibrate, the App was virtually non-functional and I had to have the B&O Dealer come to my home to physically update via USB because the web portal /App systems were not developed. It was a very rudimentary loudspeaker in terms of what it was designed to do and what it could actually do.

Moving on, a good deal of that road map has been executed as far as I know. I still think there is some promised functionality which has not been developed (still blocked-out in the original BL90 App (not in the BeoApp).

For instance, one thing that took me down the Auralic Aries G2 Streaming system (including a Vega DAC BEFORE the Aries) was because USB connections and volume control was not implemented. I believe USB volume control is now implemented but as I dont use it, I cant be sure.

Another "bug" in the App - now fixed, is from switching from say TV/PL to Auralic/XLR. Quite a few times, the BL90s would switch-on to max volume which can be quite un-nerving and traumatising. So much so that even today - as the problem/bug is resolved, I instinctively flick a music track on in the Auralic app and then quickly flick over to the BeoApp to ensure nothing jeopardises the default volume slider at start up before auto-signal detection can occur.

Current BL90 firmware I believe is running 3.1.0.1075. Assuming your BL90s are connected to the internet, you can access either by the BeoApp or by your PC (on the same network) by typing in your BL90 IP address - something like http://192.168.212.xxx. This will bring upi a mimic of the App directly from the BL90s.

Update your software from there and place it in auto update.

I cant directly answer what specific updates have occurred between 2.3.2 and 3.1.0, but I do know that a) USB Volume may be one issue and b) you can specifically target a sound mode (Narrow/Music) to fire-up on a specific input rather than autodetection.

Otherwise, apart from some functionality you may not actually ever use, I dont think you are missing much in terms of sound reproduction.

Just to add......

Using the wayback machine, it appears the BL90 (and 50) Feature list was taken down from Geoffs B&O Tech page (#57??) somewhere in or near 2018.

The last published reference was for software 2.3.x.  Looking at my 3.1.x, settings, I believe this is a comparison between the two. Where I cannot determine a change has happened, I have indicated "cant determine" - meaning I cant see it in the app. Cynically, I could have written "No" and chanced it as fact.

Does anyone know what the frequency tilt, sound enhance, and sound design were originally intended to do?
