I have a B&O 1800 that I have just received, It plays well however it has a quirk when you press play it always defaults to 45 rpm. It still drops onto the 33 1/3 play start and by pressing the 33 button it changes to 33rpm.
Is this a quick fix or is there something amiss in the control circuitry?
Any ideas?
Oxidated switch contacts in the mech? That wouldn't be a first.

Hello Martin.
I tried to clean the relays but it did not improve. It is very strange. The sequence for turn on is
Press on switch.
Turntabe with 12"record on spins at 45rpm.
Arm moves to 12" lowering position
I manually press 33rpm button.
Record plays at 33rpm.
When I press the 33 button there is no sound of any relays or switches.
Could there be a fault on the control board.
Thanks for your inputs
Mike
Are you sure it's actually running at 45RPM and not just "very fast"?Is the platter belt slipping? The electronics in some servo-controlled motors will accept it to run at double speed.if the motor can accellerate too easily (because the belt is slipping), they can sometimes be seen to do this.
Thanks for the input
I will try another belt from a working unit and report back.
Hi Martin
No luck belt is good. Do you think it is a board issue?
I have a none working unit with a good board.but I cant see how to get it out of the sub frame. The four clips seem to need a special tool. I do not want to damage anything like crack the pcb while trying to get them out.
If you have any other ideas would love to hear them
Thanks
I give up. I changed the motor and the control board.and the switch panel from another unit that had other issues.
Either it was designed as a 45rpm turntable with 33 1/3 as the default or I was unable to clean up the relays very well.
Well this was very educational. I now can change the board and the motor. and the switch panel.
I will play it for a while and see what happens.
Still defaults to 45rpm.
Anyone else have any ideas?
