I’m about to pull the trigger on some Beolab 17’s to replace my entire non B&O HiFi.
Fundamental change is that this means going from a passive to active speaker setup.
Currently I use Chromecast Audio Optical output into a higher quality DAC/preamp (which is part of the kit that I am selling). The CCA DAC does not sound good enough to me (I did A/B tests yesterday to confirm) so for the Beolab 17’s I could do:-
- CCA optical to new DAC/preamp taking the RCA outputs via adaptor to RJ45 powerlink of the 17’s
And this is what I’d thought I would do…until just now.
Why not any more? Because I’ve realised that setup is crazy as the Beolab 17’s have a Toslink input so MUST have its own DAC on board (which I assume is high quality).
ie to buy a new external DAC just seems a waste.
Therefore - how do I feed the optical output of the CCA into the optical input of the Beolab 17 AND have a volume control that is not just the CCA’s?
Need that volume control external to the CCA as I know that it’s too loud without.
(BTW I need to keep the CCA as it’s part of a multiroom setup.)
Any ideas? What I’m looking for essentially is a way to variably attenuate the digital signal on its way to the 17’s.
This must be possible otherwise the 17’s wouldn’t have a Toslink input?
Many Thanks!
