I’m looking at the Core to see if it will fulfil my connection needs to Beolab 17 speakers. Actual hard specs for the Core (as to what each connection point actually does) seem to be non-existent.
I’d be grateful if you could look at the following points and say if you agree they are true or not.
The fundamental is to use the Core as Chromecast Audio as it has built-in Chromecast
1/ Connecting Core to Beolab 17’s by Toslink will enable the B&O app on a phone to control volume (And this method gives the best sound quality)
2/ I can also connect (a non B&O) sub by the RJ45 Powerlink output of the Core (using a Powerlink to RCA adaptor). This requires that the Toslink output of the Core and the Powerlink are active at the same time.
3/ The Core has a latency/sync adjustment so if the Beolab 17’s and the sub end up slightly out of sync, that can be corrected
4/ I can connect the output of a turntable phono stage to the input of the core labelled “line in/optical”
5/ Because the Core has “Chromecast built-in”, Google Home will see it as if it were a real Chromecast Audio, allowing it to be grouped (for multiroom purpose) with a genuine Chromecast Audio
I think all the above is correct – please shout if not!
Thanks
As well as any disagreement, it would be great if you can indicate agreement with any or all of the above.
1: That is doable, yes.
However how much/which difference in real life this would make only a test will show.
I am not aware, that anyone has experimented with this.
Beware: the smoothest volume control is with a Beoremote
2: I do not know.
3: I am not sure this ‘latency setting’ is related to this.
4: Sure, you can - the sensitivity of the input can be adjusted in the settings.
5: Yes, the Home app sees the Core as a CCA device.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Thankyou!
I Understand your point about Beoremote
So what remains is
- are the Toslink and Powerlink outputs simultaneously active?
- Can the sync between those two outputs be adjusted if needed?
All further contributions welcome!
