The deck plays and records the problem is that one side is way louder than the other . The meter will max out on one side with the slider just barely on and on the other sideI have to max out the slider to any kind of meter display .. Has any body dealt with this issue before . I didn't check the record function before the recap but I think it was there before (age thing ) , I've been using the deck for only playing for awhile now. I'll re check my work but if you have any suggestions I would like to hear them , thanks
Are the VU-meter readings also uneven while recording or only at playback ?Can you tell if recordings done on tape are good by playing the tape back on another deck ?

The VU meters are uneven on recording . They max out on play back but that might be the output level pots to high . I'll check out playing back a recorded tape . On recorded one side will max out with just a little movement on the record volume slider and the other needs the slider all the way up to get 2 bars to light on the VU meter .
Some versions of these decks have a level switch at the back, right next to the DIN socket. This can have bad connections and will need a bit of excersize of maybe a shot of contact cleaner. If set wrongly, it will indeed result in the behaviour described where the incoming level is far too highand can't be set down properly, usually results in distorted recordings too due to the impedance problems.

I cleaned the din/level switch and recorded from another source. The recording plays but has unbalance channel levels and is distorted.
OK . the meters are now working correctly for play back . On record the right is max's out with very little slider movement . The left is week and distorted sounds like a dirty switch . I'll clean that DIN/level switches again
Both meters are now working on record but like you stated the signal is to hot +2dB on the meters is 1 on the sliders . I gave the DIN switch another good shot of deoxit ,see what happens.
Check for cracked solder joints at the ribbon cable connectors and bad trimmers on the bottom amplifier board.Check the record/playback relay and dolby relay (if present).
It must of been the DIN switch like you said . I gave it another good shot of deoxit and let sit overnight . When I tried the next day all is well with the record now. I'm thinking about taking that DIN switch out of circuit just make a solder connection. What is the switch for ? The" line " side is not connected to anything .I will re flow the solder on the ribbon cable connectors and give the deck a good test .
The switch selects the input impedance (and level) between RCA standard and DIN for use witheither B&O or non-B&O setups.
the deck seems to be working correctly now. I checked PPM per service manual and both sides were right on . The only other issue is the deck will turn on when the power is turn on ,it should go into stand by right ? I was told to check TR25 on IC8 ( #1 D3) .The deck sounds great , thanks
Your Beocord, like all Beocords in this design (less Beocord 9000) will be in "On" mode when mains power is applied. With no use they will time out and go into standby after 20-30 minutes or so.This may appear strange but is normal.
