Hello,
At the end of last year I bought a B&O TX2 off of Craigslist knowing that it needed the MMC 4 cartridge to be rebuilt. I sent off the cartridge and have just received the rebuilt cartridge but have a bit of an issue.
The needle guard is in the down position covering the needle and doesn't seem to want to pivot upwards without a fair amount of pressure (More than I feel comfortable applying). It is hard to tell considering the small size of the parts and the fact my eyesight isn't what it used to be, but is it possible that the plastic guard is actually stuck on the needle itself?
The cartridge was rebuilt by a reputable individual (According to the wisdom of the internet). I have contacted him with my questions, but the communication isn't great and he has stopped responding.
It's worth noting that I am completely new to record players, so this is my first time handling a cartridge. It is possible that I am completely over thinking the situation. I am dying to get this thing installed and see if the record player works.
What is the safest way to proceed? Should I just remove the needle guard by gently pulling apart the two sides? Apply more pressure to try to push it upwards? Give up and just stream music from now on!?
Thanks!
Jacques
Thanks, I did apply more force to uncover the needle, it all worked out.
