Hi,

Another problem noticed with old 5500 Beogram. The speed changes slightly during LP play. It can happen at any point of the play. It is hearable in the music and really annoying when it happens.

I suspect that the belt of the motor-flywheel is worn too much or gotten a bit longer, since it is the original belt. And this player has been stored in below 0 temperature at one point.

I noticed that the belt does not stay in center at the motor axis side. BTW why it is shaped elliptical, the part at motor axis where belt runs ?

Can someone confirm this that its only the belt problem. I would appreciate if someone has the knowledge of this.

I try to add couple pictures to illustrate what I mean. Belt in the center or dropped down of motor axis.

The pulley is barrel-shaped to hold the belt at the center of the pulley.
If the belt creeps down, the upper part of the belt will be tighter than the lower, thus pulling it up - and vice versa.
Your belt is badly worn. New belts are available here.

I have a similar question now. I'm replacing the belt on my Beogram 9500 because of the exact same issue: wows, no steady rpm, when playing a record.

So I noticed this little cylinder next to the motor. At the moment the belt goes around it, but should it?

No.
The belt must only touch the pulley.

New belt works great. Steady sound now. Also adjusted the plate at center and lifted it up a bit.
